I'd be asking them for a break down for the past few months usage, and what the actual issue is. Seems ridiculous to boot someone off for one offense. The "three strikes" would make more sense. Also get it in writing that they've booted you out and the reasoning just in case their account system is stupid and keeps trying to bill you.

Someone mentioned Voyager, I've been with them for a while, and have had no issues or warnings about usage etc - doing approx 1TB a month.

Perhaps this is an indication of deeper rooted issues with the parent HD? If you're in financial trouble the first thing you do is look for cost savings. Reducing your bandwidth pool (dependent on contracts ofcourse) would be a relatively quick way to reduce your costs. My NZ VPS provider is moving to a new DC this week from HD as they recently switched their circuit to a new more heavily congested one which has seen the relatively stable pings and routes go to the dogs. Perhaps targeting the top X percent of your consumers for removal is another means of lowering your required bandwidth?

I'd be interested to know how much you were using. If I had to guess I would say it would be a spectacularly grossly over the top amount... Probably in excess of 4-5TB/month. Yeah sure "unlimited = unlimited" but they do have T&Cs to cover unreasonable use.

I do agree they don't appear to have followed their own T&Cs here but I suspect we're getting quite a filtered story here.

Why one earth would you consider 4-5tb a month over the top?

That would be using a 100mb connection to it's capacity for less than 1/4 of the billing period, and that's without considering upload traffic.

Hell I managed to clock up about 7-800gb/month on a poxy old ADSL connection back in the Big Time days that was a tenth of the speed. I'd love to see what I could get with 200/200 :-P

So it's a 60/10 VDSL, so the maximum monthly download would be somewhere around 18TB if he could max it 24/7. If he only did 1-2 TB HD are being complete twats.

the actual amount of data is irrelevant.
You could use 5TB but if it's all off-peak and locally cached traffic, then the impact to the isp is minimal.
But if you are running constant speed tests to LA at 8pm then it might cause some problems even if the amoUnit of data used is (relatively) low.

If you are constantly watching videos I can imagine people getting through TBs of data

It doesn't matter if you and all your friends use over 1TB/month, it doesn't change the fact it's monstrously higher than normal, and way way higher than the top 1% of users. (Again, it's an unlimited plan, I concede that)

Actually you're right. I got it wrong... I used the average UPLOAD stats of 4.96Mbps for a DAILY AVERAGE from the last graph... The download was only 4.44Mbps.

Over a 30 day month, 4.44Mbps is 1.45TB... Mind you, when I add the 1.63TB/month upload it comes out at 3.08TB/month (up and down combined)

I remember when using over 500 mb was a huge amount of usage. But 1 tb doesn't sound that high when you consider uhd video streaming will become the new norm. As well complete cloud backups. The thing is that a very big percentage of customers still hardly use their Internet connection to its full advantage
