Thanks DarthKermit. That's really helpful. Why 20mm? How big is the cable?

You can see the white cable in my earlier pic. It's about 8 mm diameter I guess. The installer has tied it to my draw string, wrapped some insulation tape around it and is about to pull it through my previously installed conduit.

You don't have to do yours the same way of course. I wanted it all conduited (is that even a word?) and I sealed up the entry and exit holes with silicone to keep the H2O away.

Cool. I'm not planning to run conduit under the house but rather just let them clip it to the beams. In which case I should be able to get away with a smaller hole. Say 12mm.

Cool, 12 mm should be big enough. If your install is like mine, they'll be running hybrid cable which is Cat 6 plus fibre combined.

There would be no need to go nuts and drill a hole this big: tongue-out

23/08/2016 (Day8)

Chorus called and asked if they could come and do the install this afternoon.

And now for the obligatory screen shot:

Yep all up and running. ONT is in the patch panel 'cupboard'. 8 days from availability to online. Not bad! The three Chorus guys worked super fast.

Awesome. I only had one guy on my job, as his offsider was away. He was glad that I'd done so much of the donkey work for him.

Anywho, enjoy your speedier interwebz.

Any time, mate. Glad to be of assistance to you or anyone else who wants to partially do their own installation.

It's actually nice to see evidence of work being down well and nicely, rather than the stories of bodge ups etc

The bury's look ok, shame some will be overhead (like welly) but such is life I guess.

I would say my install was...how do I put this nicely.... Given the speed at which they worked and the tools they were working with the job is as I would have expected it to be.

It's not easy to watch because when I do work around my home I take my time and I think every step through as best I can and aim for high quality above all else. The reality is that these guys just don't have that luxury. I was the 5th install they had done that day, they finished at my place at ~7PM.

Some of their tools and methods were cringe-worthy but they were really nice guys working hard and I'll be leaving a good review for them because I believe that you can't have it both ways and as I've said in other threads I'd rather the install I got yesterday than wait another 5 years because every install is being done to craftsman standard.
