Fibre was just across the road from us at work. They wanted $15,000 to connect us up after their initial build was finished. This was through Spark, with Ultra Fast Fibre building it.

I sort of thought that Chorus would price any variation beyond the planned rollout beyond the means of mere mortals , which is why I am trying to get them to include it in the rollout, while the guys were on the ground.

I feel so lucky to be in "Gigatown"

But I'll keep looking at your suggestions, and see if any are workable.

they are not just going to include you in the rollout its already been planned and budgeted for. if they do it for you they set a presidents

just wait till fibre has been laid in yoru street and its avaliable to your neighbours then see about getting a price. if you can do most of the grunt work yourself it may not be too bad cost wise

I'm still totally confused about what the OP wants. Have Chorus confirmed to them that their house will not be covered when UFB is rolled out in their street? If not it seems some wild assumptions are being made by the OP and others.

Sorry If I'm being confusing.

I have communicated with Chorus and was advised that the rollout would not continue past my property.

A bit more background might help.

The street that I live in has standard suburban properties, to a point where the rollout is planned to end, beyond that are 7 or 8 lifestyle blocks whose driveways are about 80 metres apart, to a distance of about 250m.

My efforts to get VDSL weren't successful because the service stopped dead for the same 12 of a 24 hour period every day. While active, the service was about what I thought it should have been , bearing in mind distance from the cabinet.

But a cable problem saw VDSL only work for the same 12 hour period every day. The tech spent hours on this.

From the responses I can glean that I should wait until the rollout is done and then get back to Chorus. It just would have made sense to get this done as part of the rollout , rather than get them back again, at what will likely be further expense.

I'll continue to talk to my neighbours about getting together to see if we can get fibre.

One would assume that provisions would still be made for your properties during the rollout, and that microduct would be run to your boundary like any other property. The question then is one of installation cost, as you don't fall within the requirements for a free residential install.

Thanks, thats true, but Chorus just said that fibre would not be available, they didn't make any other suggestion. Which goes back to my post about the copper going bad.

I'm happy to take care of the install from my boundary, I did this with the copper, but I believe that the service wont be going past the boundary

I can't see that Chorus would maintain/repair the copper at all, when the technology has moved on from there.

So one would think that if they might accept that if the cable was deteriorating that they might take the opportunity to improve that part of the network for all subscribers on a particular cabinet. Of course there is probably a method by which they factor housing density into the equation re UFB rollout, which is understandable.

It was 2014 when I tried VDSL and been waiting on the fibre rollout to see what might happen.

I absolutely understand that Chorus is a business and will try to get maximum benefit from the UFB rollout and not go beyond what they are contractually obliged to.

I guess my question now is, who do I contact regarding that provision during the rollout? Usually it would be my ISP, but the service is not available yet so I can't order it.

Might be worth contacting crown fibre holdings, as you've spoken to Chorus and still need help

Contact Crown Fibre Holdings if:

you’ve already spoken to your RSP and Chorus or your LFC and you still need help
you have a question about the towns and cities the first UFB initiative covers
you have a query about the UFB extension project

UFB2 extension contracts are already done though, but a chance they may be interested in extra low hanging fruit to cover.

If there is no fibre, no VDSL and ADSL is no good, the Wireless Broadband make work for you.

Theory: 20-40mbps down.

My brother gets good speeds. No fibre at his place either.
