Wairoa UFB2 was planned for 2022...

Still quite a wide time frame.

Mt Roskill planned to complete by Jan 2020...

Oh please no.

Not more unnecessary ugly third-world cables hanging from power line poles. The telstraclear (vodafone) cockup is already enough.

The article says it was originally scheduled to start in July 2021, but has been moved forward to June 2018 (finishing May 2019).

Don't get me wrong - it's great that Wairoa is moving forward. It's just that the snail's pace in parts of central Auckland is very frustrating.

Chorus is running expensive advertising campaigns begging people to please upgrade to fibre, but my street's not getting done for more than two more years. I want Wairoa to have better internet but surely uptake in Auckland would be higher?

haha same here - we're about 400m on the wrong side of a creek to ever see fibre I think, unless they announce UFB3 or perhaps 4...

Quite a bit of Wanganui is connected to UFB by using the power poles, particularly in the suburbs like Wanganui East.

Quite a bit of Wanganui is connected to UFB by using the power poles, particularly in the suburbs like Wanganui East.

I can see the benefits of using existing poles. But installing poles in areas that don't currently have them just to save few $ seems a poor choice - if that is being contemplated.

The area around the Roskill exchange has UFB, and it's mostly deployed on the power poles. Stopped 300M away from my place though. :(

That's an interesting way of looking at it. Must say, I completely agree. I'd much rather the roll out went faster than see billboards telling me I can get better broadband, right under my feet when I've already done everything I can to make my copper connection as fast as possible, and UFB isn't due for a few more years.
