Have not been expecting UFB2 and Chorus to deliver fibre into Wairoa until sometime in 2022.

However saw this the other day:

Wow.

There is a reason aerial trespasses we stopped. I can't believe Labour want to go back to them. Talk about a high speed train wreck.

And why would any lines company deploy fibre in competition to Chorus or the local LFC? Talk about a brain dead approach.

Ah, thanks for that. I think with the (proposed?) changes to consents UFB installs might become a bit easier - hopefully.

Ah, thanks for that. I think with the (proposed?) changes to consents UFB installs might become a bit easier - hopefully.

It will make life easier for a lot of installs where consent is required.

Aerial trespass is something entirely different - it's just a no go area due to the huge complications of it. For them to work you need easements on property records or generic easements for all telecommunications services, and even then it doesn't entirely eliminate issues that could result.

Generally i would agree here, but look at unison.

They do compete with Chorus, and atleast in Sparks position are very well ranked.

There are plenty of places where there effectively is no LFC, not even Chorus. I'm happy to have my rural VDSL - which tops out around what you could get on a short ADSL2+ line in the 'burbs - but there are power lines running all the way along the road, and they're not going anywhere any time soon. Why shouldn't there be fibre on them too? If Vector want to install it, then that's fine by me. In the non-existent far distant future when they bury them, they can bury the fibre at the same time. And if Chorus has a problem with that ... well, they could get in first.

I think buried cables are a worthy goal, but it's senseless to just not install stuff because burying cables is a lot of work when there are already overhead cables and no plans to get rid of them.

This wont have much effect on UFB in Wairoa.

Most of the town uses gisborne net because its a low socio economic area and gisnet are able to cut some of the costs by running their own network.
A 30/10 connection is cheaper on gisnet than UFB.

The other thing is most of the power lines in the wairoa township are either overhead in the public corridor or underground in the public corridor. This is a change to private land rules so it doesnt affect a chorus UFB deployment.

Edit: It could help accessing rear sections down long driveways but thats not very common in Wairoa.
