Linux: They don't need UFB for 3 to 5GB per month but they have just paid ChorusNZ to run fibre to a subdivision they are putting in

I was thinking 3 fibre connections would suit them better :p

My advice to anyone is if you can get fibre and the monthly cost is the same or less than what they are paying now on copper - you would be silly not to do it.

 

The install is free (at the moment but may not always be)

 

Chorus *may* get the right to withdrawal copper from 2020 in areas that have UFB.

 

How that plays out is not know yet known but it doesn't really make sense maintaining 2 networks, copper and fibre. One which has a much higher support cost (copper)

ontop of this, fibre faults are easy. 

 

 

 

it fails or it works, its easy to troubleshoot

 

given weird problems can happen but its not like

 

 

 

oh leg is loose in CT but linetests show nothing, connection syncs good enough lets go home.

Maybe vodafone can offer them some data to bridge the gap... surely they have this uninterupted service thing all the adverts talk about ;)

Don't be surprised if Vodafine contact them asking if they want to move to fibre when it becomes available. Especially as Chorus is running a promotion where they will pay Isp's $150 for every ADSL connection that gets moved to fibre. My understanding also is that the fees that Vodafone pay to Chorus are also lower for fibre connections compared to copper connections as well.

The wholesale buy price for UFB 30/10, ADSL, VDSL and UFB 100/20 are within $2 of each other.

 

The demarcation point for fibre is a lot clearer. Generally the whole no fault found / internal cabling faults go away.

 

Chorus have done some surveys and found people on UFB are happier with the service and less like to change service providers.
There is a reduced support cost for the ISP.

 

The only cost increase is generally the ISP will need more bandwidth and backhaul. The domestic backhaul has come down a lot in the last few years and with new international cables coming online the international bandwidth has decreased but certainly not as much as domestic has.

Drove past there today just after 3pm and they had packed up for the weekend so unfortunately the 8th looks like the earliest. If they only work on this for a few hours a day no wonder it will take a week to make any progress.

I am with WXC, even though this is part of Vodafone they will not provide any data coverage so shelling out dollars due to their poor service. So many alternatives solutions but a collective lack of care for any customers affected.

How is this VodafoneNZ related they did not chop thru the fibre cable!

My parents are online thanks to ' always connected ' 100GB data bundle added by VodafoneNZ free
