I suspect it's actually the carriers that have a say in that too, I'm with Enable, not Chorus. I've heard that Chorus can run phones through the ONT, but I haven't heard the same for Enable. Be aware I may not know what I'm talking about <grin>.

All fibre companies can run phones through the ONT. It's up to the ISP if they use that option or not.
They have to pay to use the ONT whereas they router is a one off cost for them and also locks people to that gear which makes their support job easier because people won't own a random D-Link or linksys and have no idea how to work it.
