Until you read the telecom wholesale documents and find that even though dlink say they are adsl2+ compatible that they won't sync any higher than 7.5 mbps.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

recently, ive tryed netgear ADSL2+ modem with my Belkin wireless route, i had few issue 1. i think Belkin wireless router does not compatible with Netgear modem, it just does not connet, i was trying to set the netgear modem to half bridge mode but i was unable to. netgear have very few configuration available. 2. netgear get disconneted very easly, don't really know why

834G should use same chipset as Dlink 502 (Texas Instruments).

When connecting to Belkin did you setup Belkin WAN interface with static ip on modem lan interface subnet.

Linksys AM300 will do half bridge correctly after bug was fixed recently.

it works perfectly fine with my Belkin wireless router.
Dlink + Belkin = perfect mach

My 502T seemed fine until I got rid of the D-Link filters I had been using and replaced them with DSE ones.

My download speed almost doubled but the Router just kept dropping the connection (couldn't hold it together for even 5 minutes) - so with its own crappy filters it was fine, but when it got my line's full speed it just couldn't cope

For some reason 2 people have had issues which is wierd since the 1025w is pretty highly recommended
The 1320 works good as a half bridge modem too.

To be fair, the Dynalink modem I had was just a basic ADSL modem ( not a router ) working on a WIN98SE machine approx 4 years ago. Endless disconnections, would not re-connect without turning off etc etc.

Things may well have improved since then, and I also have been told that the 1025W is a good stable modem / router. They had these at Affordable computer for approx $135.00, but for the sake of an extra $20.00 and peace of mind i plumped for the Linksys.

I don't think there a 'right' answer here.

I deal with ADSL modems and setups pretty much everyday and for the last few years have found ...

- Depending on location you may enjoy success with any of the modems mentioned, or not.
- Clients have a Dlink G604T and keep getting drop-outs, replace with Netgear DG834G and all is fine.
- Client has a netgear DG834, had to replace with Dlink G804V - perfect.
... and so it goes on with all brands .... Linksys replaced with Dlink, Dlink replaced with Linksys ... all in different areas of Auckland City and there does not seem to be a common reason (that I know of).

The only units I have had a good amount of success with is the Dlink G804V and Netgear DGFV338 - they are pricey by comparison to the low end 'home' models.

Interestingly the Netgear DGFV338 syncs up at 14900DL / 900UL rates in Mt Wellington compared to the Dlink G804V which gives the standard 7612DL/806UL rates.

Linksys, 3com and the newer dynalinks all have excellent reputations. Never make comparisons between new and old routers, because any router thats on its way out will have been subjected to power spikes etc that the new one will be just as susceptable to (but do put it on a surge protector). Avoid D-Link, netgear and the cheap generic ones where you can, even though they should still work but will be easier to go flakey on you. D-Link also has compatibility issues.

Time to find a new industry!

My experiences...

* D-Link 504-T

Annoying highpitched noise
Dropped connection frequently.
Couldn't connect to modem UI and make changes unless not connected to the net for some reason
Got the vendor to replace it but next unit was exactly the same (slightly less annoying pitch on the high pitched noise).

* Dynalink RTA1335

Very stable, never dropped a connection. I liked this modem a lot.
Quick access to modem UI, easy to use, and changes updated quickly
Got hella hot, but never seemed to be an issue. Just don't put next to paper or kindling ;)
Turned out it was responsible for feedback noise on the phoneline (It is clear as a bell now with Siemens Gigaset SX 763).

That's a good point and just reminds me of the fact that when saving settings on my Dynalink I hardly ever have to reboot, but on the D-link I would have to save and reboot every time. Doesn't sound like much but if you change things a lot it can get awful annoying (and inconvenient)

Modems I have owned

Billion 7100S - Good Basic Reliable Modem

D-Link DSL-302G - Required restart every now and then

D-Link DSL-G604T - Total rubbish, always lost connection, poor range

Linksys WAG200G - Brilliant, Easy to set up, very reliable, great sync speed, I havn't had to restart for 6 months. I am looking at the WAG54G for VOIP but I have read thay have some issues so I have hesitated.

I also had a Netgear WG111T Wireless USB Adaptor which always overheated and continuously dropped the connection

How long does it take you to walk to your exchange? <1minute?

I returned two or three WAG54G v3 (that's the slightly more advanced version of the WAG200G) for it's inability to keep a connection.
Sure it synced at absoloutely amazing speeds considering my distance from the exchange (3-4km), but it also dropped seconds after I started downloading anything. It was so consistent at this, that I was able to repeat it every single time I tried.

So, I swapped it for an RTA1025W. Ironically, I returned the first one because the aeriel was broken. However, the second one has lasted me 6 months without a single issue.

It doesn't sync as fast, isn't as easy to use, doesn't have as many features (although it does have a bunch the WAG didn't) and doesn't feel very robust. But it works well, at half the temperature of the WAG.

Additionally the adaptor isn't at risk of melting the power cable. Definitely a plus.

How do you find out where your exchange is located? Telstraclear weren't able to help me on this, presumably because the exchange is Telecom's.

You can do a quick and dirty calculation of exchange distance by dividing line attenuation by 13.81

I might try to change my filter, ill see if there are any improvement on download speed.
if not im might go with Dynalink.

That is a bit depressing. So even with the latest firmware, I'll never get ADSL2 speeds on my D-link 504T?

I'm on the Avondale exchange, line attenuation is about 25db downstream.
