I had some guys from enable offer to install fibre for free as long as I used it. Sure I said, I had FibreX ie: cable, already but don't want to be tied to Vodafone in the future.

So they did the work, installed it underground, put some boxes on the wall and made a nice job of it. A few weeks later a lady rang up asking if I was happy with the service and did I have it up and running? I said I was happy with it.

So I have ended up with a fibre connection up to a box to plug the router in, and my Cable connection which I use.

Nicely future proofed.

I'd agree, I had a cabinet directly outside my property and never saw the Upload above 30 (or the down above 100).

Just for the Ping upgrade I'd definitely switch to Fibre over VDSL, it's better in pretty much every way possible....

Wait Is there a better ping on fibre? I did not know that. Thats gonna make me switch tomorrow then. Can some enable fibre person ping login1.worldofwarships.com for me

Good on you I will do the same asap. Good riddance to FibreX.

This is good news for me (for a rental property). I wanted to get the fibre into the house while it was still free to do so but previously they would only do it with an order from an ISP.

I just phoned Enable and they are going to get their "door knocking team" to contact me.

I'm picking they (enable), will do ok with this new option....afterall they are simply there to make a profit by connecting more people to the network.

So comming back to this,

In the orginal post I mentioned the date for a scope was set (for two weeks after the initial contact), and the build date a week after scope...

Day of scope came, went well (although they were an 1.5 hours late but did call me to let me know).

- Agreed on location of ONT and the path of the microduct. (it was my first option for location of ONT (garage), and second logical option for the path the microduct would take, after 1st logical option being rather tricky). This all but took say 10-15mins max.

- Two days later a guy came to dig and lay microduct

- A day later the installer calls me and asks if I would like to bring forward my install date by 4 days. I say YES of course, its Saturday morning.... means I wont have to take time off work anymore.

- 8am Saturday morning.... a little boy waits. At 930am, I decide to text the installer (he contacted me yesterday from his mobile). Installer says "i'll be there soon, sorry". I wasnt fussed as it was Saturday!

- 10am, Installer arrives, really nice guy, well organised. Unpacks, installs the terminating point on the side of the house, runs the fibre through the roofspace to my garage. Places ONT on the wall where I wanted it, all nice and tidy and he even left a good 'loop' of the yellow fibre patch cable, so if I wanted to move the ONT a metre into my proposed cabinet, I could later on. All up I think less than 2 hours. (fibre to was already blown after the microduct was installed earlier in the week).

Now, just getting motitvated to sort out hanging the network cabinet, wiring, hanging an AP and relocating stuff to this then I'll be ready to order fibre.

9.5/10 to Enable.
