ZollyMonsta: Best I can do on my connection is 763 / 340
you both likely have device limitations
BarTender:
It won't be your broadband connection.
Not necessarily true. I know of several that have posted on Geekzone that had problem with the provisioning of their plan, including myself.
That said, most of my equipment is unable to fully use the gig connection I have (as in getting full speed on a speed test), and that is not on the ISP.
PS: Was never able to get a good speed test using in browser tests, had to use the app and test to the "right" servers to see the full speed.

i think generally if there is a provisioning issues its apparent in the speed test results with one of the results being very low compared to the othere
both ZollyMonsta and Batman have pretty decent results so its unlikely to be provisioning
What app do you use?? Is it something that you run on the router?

windows 10 speed test app
I am using ASUS AC87U and just moved it through a 30cm CAT6 and plugged straight into ONT.
Tested with my laptop to the router above, and only manage to get 500/300. Although I think my router is reasonably powerful but I will test with another one will see. It seems to me so far it is either the hardware side of things and/or misconfiguration on the plan.
Q1: Another thing is that I am very early adopter of Fibre back in the days (before it is even rolled out) in Auckland. Could be my ONT old?
Q2: I have been using fast.com and speedtest.net to test (browser based); is there any "geek" level utility anyone use?
BarTender: As someone who extensively tested the HG659 on Spark for gig services. The UFB connection can absolutely saturate a 1GB connection.
Spark maxes out around 940 due to PPPoE and on IPoE I was able to get 950.
Every single thread on Geekzone has been either the router that was swapped out that wasn't up to it or the computer that was under powered.
I think there must be at least 40+ threads all with the same experience.
It won't be your broadband connection.
Q1: unlikely
Q2: read the previous post, windows 10 speedtest.net app
routers like the one you mentioned while they appear to be powerful with all the marketing speak they sometimes dont live up to the hype when it comes to routing, and just cant manage to do gigabit connections.
if you have another router (hg659 as its a proven performer) you can try i would try that. but that would be the next thing i would be trying after using the windows 10 app as given the 500/300 it seems like its something inside your network thats the problem
on Slingshot I can get around 940Mbps.

Thanks Jase2985. got the app installed and result is the same as the browser one.
I have already worked out the internal cabling problem and the reading 500/300 is the speed when the AC87U connected to the router. WIll try to see if I can borrww a HG659 from someone and test it again.
FYI, using MyRepublic and Windows Speedtest app from Whakatane to Auckland Server I got
498 down 496 up using Voyager
836 down 485 up using 2Degrees
945 down 482 up using Stuff
756 down 483 up using Nova
590 down 472 up using Vodafone
793 down 480 up using Spark
723 down 469 up using Vocus
365 down 343 up using University of Auckland
617 down 469 up using Trustpower
948 down 480 up using Stuff again
588 down 491 up using Voyager again
This is with an old PC i5-4570 and old router Asus RT-N56U

hkan008:[snip] 500/300 is the speed when the AC87U connected to the router.
Are you using 2 routers? Double NAT?

Nope. Have my router directly plugged into NAT and my laptop plugged into router and ran the speed test.
