Chorus master filters are required to meet water submersion to a modest depth the exact numbers elude me at this moment, but this has always been in their spec.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the suggestions and recommendations. Some quiet varied views! 😉

Ended up doing the following...

  • Used the telecom crimp wire connectors - those button shaped ones. Easier than soldering for sure...though fiddly little buggers.
  • Replaced the VDSL master splitter. No improvement in speed but the Internet was more stable. Maybe a placebo effect there.  Little disappointed there was no improvement in speed - though not all that surprised either.
  • Today I finally got around to running a new Cat 5e cable from the demarc point to the modem.  And bingo - now syncing at 53/16.  That's actually the best it's ever been.

So yeah....internal wiring somewhere.  Even though its not changed since Ive had VDSL its developed an issue somewhere.  I did trace the cable (also Cat 5e) around the roof space and weirdly it disappeared down into a wall that has no phone socket on it.  Couldn't pull the cable up so either they've tied a knot in it or its connected to something.

Here's stats from before:

And if that isnt impressive enough...I think the spectrum graphs really illustrate the point.
