I've had trustpower as one of our connections for years and never have actual "internet" issues. 
I think the issue you had was one mistake by the CSR at Trustpower, which would have been the same mistake any CSR at any ISP could have made. 

But yeah, for the sake of a few dollars, don't inform the LSP - until your new connection is complete.
