gbwelly: I've never used email support with bigpipe, I've always used chat and told the Bot that I wanted to talk to a human. Those humans have consistently been able to resolve my issues on the spot. E.g. when I moved from vdsl to fibre they reinstated my static ip address on the spot.

Same here - My static was down for 15 minutes after my switch to fibre, used facebook chat

100/100 is delivered at a over committed rate for PPPoE services to still return full 100/100 speed.. Chorus do this for all of their BS2a services.

The limitations I refer to apply primarily to the gigabit plans, where very few routers can route at close to the maximum speed when PPPoE is used.

I'd happily configure a VLAN if it meant I could get rid of PPPoE.

I set my friend up with bigpipe elite, using a Mikrotik RB4011 full speed with PPPoE

nztim: Bigpipe have been fine for me, once I was setup it never has gone down and have 100/100 plan, also they dont use tagged VLAN10 which is irritating when you want to swap out a faulty router in a hurry and have to create sub interfaces etc

Sorry what do you mean by sub interfaces?

On your WAN creating a VLAN10 Tagged sub interface which is required by some ISPs (but not bigpipe) it means if you change your router in a hurry with very little configuration to do, the VLAN 10 i find an utter pain in the ass

Ah ok...... that is not what I thought you meant. To me this is quick and easy but guess some might find that hard.

..... Also worth noting you can use any router you like on Bigpipe, whereas with Skinny Unlimited you'll need to get one of their supplied modems as part of your connection.

That's a myth. My skinny router has never been powered on. They just won't help you set up another 3rd party router, but as long as you configure it per usual you'll have no trouble.

Lorenceo is not wrong. They said you need to get one of the supplied modems, there's no requirement to actually use it.

I've been with Bigpipe for years and haven't had any real problems. Have used their email support once which they took ages to reply to.

Been looking at moving lately as there are a lot of options out there that seem to offer more for a much cheaper price.

There are cheaper options until you wabt things like Static IP addresses then others don't look so cheap anymore

Yeah, bang on there. I only left Vodafone years ago because for me to get a static was going to push my monthly bill up by another $40 a month.

Voyager gave me everything I wanted for $100 a month (Saving $60 compared to V/fone). Only left Voyager because they couldnt offer me 100/100 without going to a business plan with a higher monthly bill again.

BP have been perfectly fine for me, not had any issues so far as such, only frustrating thing is I cant change my billing date :D

You also need to be prepared to dig it out if you ever have an issue, because tech support won't help you until you confirm you're using the Skinny HG659.

I was on Bigpipe for about two years before switching to Skinny around 18 months ago. Other than the HG659 annoyance, the experience is basically identical in terms of both internet performance and support. As Skinny is significantly cheaper, for me, switching was a great move. I do miss my BP static IP but managing dynamic DNS is pretty easy in 2019.

that's not entirely true . . .
When I was having issues Skinny actually encouraged me to use another router for troubleshooting.
I put in a fritzbox 7490 and they helped me set it up . . .
Since then I've needed help on one other occasion and they were still happy to help me even though I was still using the fritz

I'd suspect what they were doing is confirming it wasn't just a modem fault.

It's a very basic check to have within the toolkit..
