Most of the "I need a static IP" comments I've seen around are from people who see the options as CGNAT or static, which matches my personal observation that once an ISP rolls out CGNAT your options seem to be paying for a static IP or being stuck being CGNAT.

2degrees offer a free dynamic public IP. I'm pretty sure I've seen comments on here that Trustpower also offer a free dynamic public IP.

Yep from what I have seen also, cost typically is when a static is required, as opposed to a public dynamic

I'm not aware of 2degrees offering a free dynamic public IP.

They are/were doing a free static on a case by case basis.

And quite simply virtually nobody cares about P2P these days. Those that do fall into the 0.1% of people who could benefit from a public or static public IP address.

Long gone are the days that P2P traffic made up a significant percentage of RSP traffic as everybody pirated content. These days those still engaging in that and the total percentage of traffic it represents is minimal compared to what it used to be.

2D just give you an public IP address for free - they've done it to plenty of people on here who have rung up.

Nope, static is definitely not free. 10$ per month. It's specifically stated in the 2D price list.

Hi, talk to them, lots of recent changes are not reflected in their web site blurb, if you really have a use case I am pretty sure its waved, but Dynamic public should most definitely be free, YMMV.

Ok, I've called the support and after I've explained the case (why CG-NAT is not working for me), I've been moved from the CG-NAT. It seems like they are doing this on a case by case basis.

We include 1x IPv4 and a /56 of IPv6 with all connections.

Having said that, the IPv4 crunch is very real.

So my v6 is really rusty, if it’s provided by the ISP then things like hosting or p2p gaming should work given that all connections can support ipv6.

The part that fumbles it is having support on all clients. I’ve also never gotten around to setting it up, seemed easier to disable and rely on v4 for p2p game hosting.

I was looking into this myself. No-ip supports AAAA redirections now. So enabled 6 on my router (funny enough started to get some odd tcp timeouts like reported elsewhere..)

Most the tests come back OK, but public v6 reported like v4 behind CG - differently than the router. And any pinholes I created (you cant specify different out to in :( ) weren't being flagged as open with remote tests :/

2degrees don't do dynamic IPs. They do static IPs for customers who are effected by CG nat

You people get interesting speeds on speedtest.net.

I am with Slingshot on Fibre Broadband - Unlimited Gigantic Fibre Broadband with Homeline.

Speedtest.net is 235 down and 301.87 up.

If I test to slingshots/vocus test site linetest.nz, I get 936 down and 563 up.

The only way I get the full speed is on linetest.nz to Vocus.

I never get full speed testing to other servers.

This suggests to me that the linetest.nz is a special test site and that slingshot cannot supply Unlimited Gigantic Fibre Broadband with Homeline.

Anyone any thoughts on this?

Both websites are the same service, all linetest.nz is doing is forcing you to only vocus's servers. (oh and not showing all the advert BS that is on speedtest.net)
