We are getting slightly off the subject, but I have done quite a bit of fine tuning for the average handyman. My favourite hack was changing the sig to noise on Broadcom chipset modems.
Anyway, the filter was an older 2 pair ADSL one, then I changed it for a computer dynamics VDSL one with 3 pairs. I didn’t notice any improvement at the time, but that was in the bad old days before DLM. I remember thinking they probably just joined the line and ADSL pairs together. (Marketing!). Would be interesting to know what is inside...

I just dont buy that the newer 3 pair version are any better than the 2 pair. As 2-wire scotch locks, are no different to 3-wire scotch locks - most of the time the issue is people squeeze them with normal pliers and not parrallel jaw pliers.
The newer 3port devices were spec'd, characterised and designed to >17MHz, while the 2port ones were only ever intended for ADSL, therefore only characterised to 2MHz, what they do above that, no one knows, as they were never designed or tested over 2MHz.
