I am also interested in this discussion. Since the lockdown had everyone streaming at home, I have noticed a general deterioration of my streaming performance. Not so much within NZ, but definitely overseas. I often get buffering and reduced quality on Australian IPTV streams in particular, but also some European sites and usually in our evening. It tends to come and go but I often get buffering now where I didn't before. I am on a WISP, none of the 'big' players, and I don't know how that affects this.

this discussion has zero to do with your issues

What would affect my issues then? How does my ISP get its offshore content? I assume it arrives in the same way as any other. If not, what is the difference?

I don't use wi-fi for streaming so that is ruled out. Congestion was an issue when I was on RBI, don't know how busy my WISP tower is. How does one gain more insight into these matters?

you don't.

but what i'll anadocally confirm is since many providers lifted caps over covid 19, data usage over towers skyrocketed and it definitely opened up for abuse that would impact other customers.

Remember the tower itself is communicating over a shared spectrum with other users on that tower.

you ISP is a providing you internet via wifi isn't it?

how busy your WISP tower is, likely very as Hio77 mentioned the removal of data caps etc has seem internet traffic skyrocket

you say the measures they put in place in Europe, to limit the quality of Netflix to reduce the amount of traffic going round

your also live streaming services that aren't really meant to be streamed as you are. they are meant for local consumption and because of all of the above your experience suffers. if it was on demand content you would be sweet as the content would have a chance to buffer but live content is less forgiving

When you said wifi I thought you were referring to in-house wifi since that is usually always mentioned as an issue. As far as I know, my Internet comes via a microwave link from the WISP tower. I guess that is also 'wifi'.

Some of the stuff I stream, like Ozzie Freeview, is indeed geo-locked, though not all of it is. I also stream a lot of stuff like MSNBC, Medici, and Digital Concert Hall, which is based in Europe but available to be streamed by anyone anywhere, both free and subscription. Some of this is live streamed and some is on demand. The on demand content is indeed more flexible than the live content, but even some on demand content is sometimes difficult for me now. I can easily see when the adaptive streaming drops to the lowest possible resolution and occasionally even that is not enough. The Oz Freeview streams used to work pretty well for the most part, but now they probably wouldn't work at all without the Huisman Playback Quality Select feature for Kodi. I usually have to knock the ABC and SBS streams down to one of the lowest bitrates and sometimes even that doesn't work. HD is pretty much out for me. I am just glad when SD works without stuttering.
