Nice work Daniel - in a world of mediocre customer service you've truly separated yourself.
The connection went 'live' at 3pm, but there seems to be a provisioning issue (of course that happens on the 24th of December...). Working on it!

Most small regional ISPs can do this with Chorus if the ONT is installed and been previously connected.
I'm sure they can, just not sure they're always able to do so (based on past experience).
There is nothing stopping any RSP from doing a same day connection on most intact ONT's - the problem is normally their processes prevent this.

danielfaulknor: Exactly - the reason I've been able to do it so fast is I've been taking a "connection first, customer details/money later" approach which is admittedly a little risky but probably OK for fellow Geekzone folk :)

Yep, I was going to mention the process thing, but, figured bureaucracy would be implied.
UPDATE:
So, after bumping into a couple of 11th hour issues (particularly on Christmas Eve!), Daniel did get me connected.
Fantastic work. Full credit to Daniel, and must admit, it's nice to have a little faith restored in the ability of at least one RSP who can perform something like this on Christmas Eve.
Hey Daniel,
Any room for one more? I'll send you an DM.

Yes, as its "intact" Its a system thing not an install thing. Always been the way, same with copper.

Cannot thank Dan enough for this. Absolutely above and beyond on Christmas eve what a legend! I'm all up and running!
To fill everyone else in, I had just switched to Electric Kiwi's new broadband as we already have our power with them and figured it would be easy to have it all on one bill. They were doing a great deal of $92 odd dollars a month for 800down/500up which is about what I was paying with Bigpipe for only 100down/100up. So I was like "you beauty baby, gigabit here I come!"
They sent us this Netcomm router which lasted a day and then decided to become completely unresponsive. No dramas I figured, I still had the old classic Huawei hg659 router from my bigpipe so I got on the live chat to EK to ask them if they could help me configure it to connect to their service while I waited for a replacement Netcomm (which believe it or not is EVEN worse than the Huawei one). Unfortunately, this proved a little too much for their support team despite the fact that many other providers appear to have ready made PDF help guides on how to configure various common "bring your own" routers with their service.
I think I'll upgrade to some Grandstream gear one of these days anyway! As it was neither router can really keep up with that kind of bandwidth over wifi anyway.

My experience I've noted with people on here who try to use their power company's broadband service: half the time it doesn't work, the other half the support line has no idea how to fix the problem.
Glad you found a real service provider who helped you out :)
