isnt that premises wiring they used to do when fiber first came out?

you connect the port on the ONT back plate to the ONT POTS port and it allows you to connect into the house wiring.

This morning I carefully disconnected the cable at the phone jack end, so I could reconnect it if necessary. Fibre stayed up, so then I got out the pliers and chopped the cable a few inches from the ONT box. All running well aftewards!

Personally, I would have left it as is.

You dont know if your circumstances change oneday and you need to plug in a cordless phone somewhere or you move house and someone wanted that feature.

It wasnt hurting anyone or interferring with anything....

Well it was an unsightly cable along one side of the room, becase the phone box was on the opposite side to the ONT box. The end is still there if they want to reattach it.
