I am keen to know, one unanswered question.....

What does the chorus assurance portal say about the status of the ONT?

Vodafone would be able to check this.

We'll see it as untestable/no service under the tools.

We have to rely on the customer providing evidence that it's actually missing/removed/uplifted from the property when it shows this ^.

Of course the service would just go live anyway so it's a bit awkward when a customer asks for service and then we get told the moment it goes live "Oh the ONT isn't here...".

Ahh right. I misread. I had assumed "we'll" meant future tense, as in the test has not been performed yet.

Oh well my theory of the ONT being moved to run on another cable leaving the ETP (as can happen in commercial buildings) is not the case then.

This is what I thought had happened. ONT moved and the old tail left there but not neccesarily connected to anything.

Just an update on this for anyone interested - Maxine has been fantastic helping with this issue, and has confirmed at this address there is a working ONT - this is a building that has one physical address, but is sort of split internally & two unrelated businesses run out of it. Seems like the ONT was most likely moved from one side of the building to the other in the past.

Our client's service was activated on port 2 of the working ONT, at the correct address, but this was obviously not easily accessible to our client. Several solutions have been put forward, and just waiting on Landlord approval for some cabling work to take place.

Not sure what would have happened here if the client was with a provider who uses the ONT for voice & needed a landline - guess a second ONT would have had to have been installed in that case.

Thanks for your help @MaxineN

Just order a second ONT installation service, and get the chorus tech to use the existing opticat back to the ETP.

Whilst this is the best option. The customer declined when I was speaking with them. However I have reached out to Chorus to determine if this will be the only permanent path or perhaps it’s a what it still could be and there’s a record discrepancy.

Right now a long Ethernet cable is what they’re going with or some drilling and keystones as the other shop has a good relationship with the customer and said yes.
