Honestly, if you’re with Trustpower ask them nicely for some newer kit. Highly likely they’ll send it out completely free of charge then it’ll just be plug and play.

Their router offering is quite good too.

$180 for a nice new router is cheap as chips and I suspect it will also support WiFi6

Most of the service providers offer the modem free if you commit to 12 months with them.

You never mentioned that so apologies with making what I considered to be a suitable recommendation.

Trustpower want to charge me for the modem.
I am looking for a solution that is not going to cost me $180

Are you on contract with Trustpower? 2degrees are offering a $250 joining credit, with free rental on an Orbi Wi-fi 6 router, so even if you are maybe the break fee is less than the joining credit:

https://www.2degrees.nz/broadband/plans?discount=yes

Alternatively, ring up TrustPower and say you are looking at switching, tell them about the 2degrees deal, and ask nicely if they would send you a new router in exchange for a 12 month contract extension.

Or just buy a cheap router from trademe, there are a lot of skinny/spark smart modems for sale.

At this stage I am in discussions with TP on getting a free modem.
If this fails I will buy one from TM.
I am not changing providers.
The advise I am after is what to buy off TM.
There are lots of modems out there just not sure which is the best option
Cheers

@beenz No need to be rude to people attempting to help here. You actually provided very little information at the start so we were providing recommendations to get you the best for free.

Hi

You have totally got the wrong perception.

I just read what i wrote and i certainly was not being rude, not in my eyes anyway.

My apologies if it came across that way.

Anyway moving on I am after recommendations as to what router/modem to buy from TM

I can't say I've tried them, but this is a pretty nice price for the specs: https://www.computerlounge.co.nz/shop/networking/routers/routers/tenda-tx3-ax1800-dual-band-gigabit-wi-fi-6-router
