Chorus Assurance restarted the POLT that homed both of these ONT.

Glad to hear it's all fixed, their equipment was dropping specific sizes frames in multiples of 16.

Cisco cli let's you run a sweeping ping with incrementing size

RT1#ping
Protocol [ip]:
Target IP address: 121.x.x..x
Repeat count [5]: 1
Datagram size [100]:
Timeout in seconds [2]:
Extended commands [n]: y
Source address or interface: gigabitethernet0/1.4
Type of service [0]:
Set DF bit in IP header? [no]: y
Validate reply data? [no]:
Data pattern [0xABCD]:
Loose, Strict, Record, Timestamp, Verbose[none]:
Sweep range of sizes [n]: y
Sweep min size [36]:
Sweep max size [18024]: 1501
Sweep interval [1]:

Type escape sequence to abort. Sending 1466, [36..1501]-byte ICMP Echos to 121.x.x.x, timeout is 2 seconds: Packet sent with a source address of 131.203.y.y
Packet sent with the DF bit set !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Success rate is 98 percent (1446/1466), round-trip min/avg/max = 8/12/40 ms

Starting from 36 and ending at 1501 (which should fail)
If you can count from 36 we can see all the sizes that failed. Which was cleared up after the POLT restart.

I didn’t do anything, so can’t claim any thanks hah
But I am VERY keen to know more.
@Cxf can you DM me the impacted ASIDs?

I am told this is not the first time this happened in that area. Restarting equipment is not a fix, just a workaround. Perhaps this time a permanent solution (software or hardware) comes into play.

Yeah, I’m going to chase this internally.
Just need those ASIDs from our friends at 2D and I’ll run this to ground.

I am, of course, wanting to ensure this isn’t going to occur elsewhere.

In defence of Chorus and hat tip to @BMarquis the problem that LFCs face is the amount of nonsense complaints is far too high. So when a genuine problem appears and looks like all the same issues that support folks can miss it.
Intermittent hardware faults also make things fun, nice one fella looking into this.

Yeah, pretty reasonable. The escalation path for RSP support is kind of tricky though. Like, at first I just mentioned that running things through a VPN seemed to alleviate the problem, so I had several tickets closed with "we don't support VPN" or "move your router up higher" :D

I'm not sure the ideal fix for that. Really glad several smart people lurk here and can reach out when they see something interesting :)

Just to re-format the above PING output, requests of these datagram packet sizes (bytes) did not receive a response:

64, 96, 112, 144, 192, 208, 224, 240, 272, 304, 320, 384, 400, 432, 448, 464, 480, 512, 1088, 1501
