Yeah, its at the far end of the property, I'll have to get round there again at some stage, maybe with a cabler/sparky and get a quote for running ethernet thru the ceiling or something. My "office" will be at the opposite end of the property, so hence why looking to move the ONT etc. Its closer to the road, and easy access whereas existing setup its run the length of the house and around the corner :D

Red = existing setup   Green = preferred but not at $1000 :D

There is the argument you spent XXXXX on the house, what's another $1000 to get what you want when compared to the purchase price of the property

I have to admit the install location by the previous owner/tenant is a bit lame

cyril7: Hi what garden is along the back wall, might be easier to get a cable/sparkie to run a conduit in the garden along that wall with a outdoor rated cat6 in it.

Cyril

Thinking that myself actually. Wouldn't be hard to do. Next time I'm at the property I'll take closer look at how it could be run. Want it to be tidy, unlike my current setup :D (Standard CAT5 running along wall outside with no protection - been like that for years with no issue)

True, but I'm married to someone who does accounts, and weighs up ROI on everything and is pretty much ignorant to tech/geek wants/needs ;)

Just buy a whole bunch of 30m Ethernet cables and run them from your router to the various parts of the house. Use brown packing tape to secure them to the skirting boards. You may find your wife’s focus on ROI changes 😁.*

*Just in case the smiley face wasn’t enough, I am joking. I don’t want to ferment disharmony in your household.

LOL @ all....  tried the skirting board options where we are now, hence the dodgy outdoor run of cabling instead :D

Also, You will accumulate more points based on the number of very visible doorway crossings you require  , :)

(tape works for a direct crossing on hardwood floors, but if you have carpet you might need a more noticeable up and over the door frame)

Additionally the use of blue cabling is well a well known fail factor for SWMBO approval....

Urgh, wash your mouth out :D

Main reasons I wont use powerline solutions, is 1) Latency  2) Speed limitations.

I'm a gamer and a geek, so require the lack of latency where possible, and require speed for the services I run from the home server, to outside parties.

If I just needed basic internet, then yeah, it'd be an option.

Was looking at fluro pink, in 10m runs with a 48 port switch in between each :)

Wireless bridge is where it's at. It has to be extra high power to get through all the walls at full speed. Just enough that it tingles when you get in the way.
