Decal:I got a quote of $80k last year for a property ~450m from a rural cabinet that had fibre to it.

Still quite an expensive outlay though, especially compared to the cost of Starlink.
Actually would having Starlink at a property increase its value as much as fibre would? I guess no?

It would add more than that to the property value
To the right person maybe, but to the majority of people, i wouldn't think so.
Plenty of the smaller ISPs will do it, bigger ones won't bother because of the constant back and forth and dealing with Chorus.
We recently did one for a corporate which was upwards of $50k and the fibre was running past the gate.

Out of interest, what is the comarptive cost to connect to utility power on a rural property?

Cost us $14k to connect to the fibre running past our gate, on our side of the road.
In-laws put a house in one of our paddocks and cost them about $40k to get connected to the power lines on the other side of the road.
They are connected to the same transformer as us.
Majority of the cost for the power was getting it trenched under the road.
Our power is aerial over the road so not sure why they had to trench their install.
I tried to tell them to go solar but they didn’t go for it. :(
$40k is a bit of solar, 10kWh of panels and 20+kWh battery storage. Though would probably want/need more if completely off grid.

Yup, probably would have got a good enough system for just the two of them, with their gas hot water and hob and wood fire, for the same price or less and then no monthly power bills but couldn't convince them. :(

We paid $25,000 including GST 18 months ago. The fibre we connected to was across the road so duct under the road a pit and all the other bits and bobs, plus 1 days work for 2 techs and 1 days work for 3 techs, plus the person who dug the hole and drilled the duct.
Would I do it now, not sure as the $79 deprioritized Starlink looks good value.
