nate:

I am thinking of releasing an online tool that will automate this, would anybody use it?  Post here so I can gauge interest.

Wouldn't you have to get the nod from Telecom or Chorus to publish this sort of infomation online?

Its a neat idea and would be great if it didnt take too long, however http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps has more than enough info as having the exchange 100m away from your house means little if the physical cables are running up and down a few times before showing up at your doorstep. Sync rates therefore also cannot be speculated so its usefullness could be linited.

not to say that I still wouldnt use it :)

Behodar: there's one going in (or already gone in?) at the other end of my street

Quoting my own post here... but how do you tell whether you're currently on a cabinet or not?

For anyone in the Chatswood area, North Shoree, we're being upgraded within the year (exchange is ADSL2+ but cabinet isn't).
Been advised that with our house we can expect approx 17mbps - cool! (currently 4mbps/512kbps).

Why do you want to know where it will be installed?

It should be upgraded in OCT 2009

Cabinet Details

Cabinet Name: MSY/AK
Projected Cabinet Upgrade: Oct 2009

Wills1: I was just wondering if there is a way to find out where future cabnets are going to be installed. The one that interests me is MSY/AK

I have a database of all the cabinet locations from Chorus, PM me your address and I'll give you the location.

Exchange and cabinet information should be freely available to everyone. Again we are being ruled by Telecom on this. I point you all to SamKnows website in the UK. http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/EACAM cambridge exchange listed but you can search and find any exhcange information you want. Look at the map, list of providers and services etc etc.

This sort of information really helps when moving house, or business premises. You can even sign up for exchange email updates and rss feeds on exhcange updates. as listed at the bottom of the screen.

We are a small country, but sometimes that should work in our favour. ie it is easy to do this stuff with one major player controlling access and the small number of exchanges compared to other countries.

cheers

I had a look using that map link posted a while back, Apparently my area of Wattle Downs, Auckland is due for fitting of a roadside cabinate in jan 2010, and my house is in range of it :). What speeds could i be expecting to get when this is complete?
