I believe it means that your connection won't be transfered from 3G to 2G during a packet data connection (i.e. if you connect to the network using 3G, you won't be switched to a 2G GPRS connection; and negating the need to lock the device to 3G only).

Johnr would that also mean *if* a VF customer was using 3G and for what ever reason they where I don't know traveling and went into an area the device could not get 3G, that the packet data session would be drooped?

nzbnw

PS and slightly OT; but who the heck is the 'G' guy who keeps commenting on these NBR articles?

3G data session can not hand down to GPRS unless no 3G coverage at all

coffeebaron: Matamata (Waikato)

Vodafone - alas I could not get a 3G signal, so it's GPRS; but apparently there is a new site on its way as noted by johnr @ http://forum.vodafone.co.nz/topic/3346-3g-extend-and-k3565-z/
So there will be a re-test to come.

New Matamata Centeral 3G 900mhz site was integrated today not live to customers yet.

Nice work on the tests. I need to get a Vodafone device and test alongside Telecom.
Certainly sounds like the mobile data speed race is becoming more even, soon enough it will be pricing that sets the two major telcos apart!
