Do you know if there's an external telecom box outside your house? Sounds like that master jack is the demarc so should be interesting to see how much a splitter improves the performance. It looks like you should be able to get at least 8mbps although the downloading performance might not change much.

Time to find a new industry!

I could not find a telecom box outside. Is it possible that at one point the master jack has been moved without the right casing? as at the moment the jack we are using has had the number 1 and the date 1992 penciled into it.

Since all the other jacks apart from the supposed master jack have a 2 in the bottom right. They may be trying to suggest that this is the new master port as at 1992. (This is a 1980s house)

From what I have just told you do you think I would be able to surpass 8mbps and do you think it is worthwhile getting coffeebaron in to set it up?

By the way coffeebaron I am very thankful for your offer to help set it up and will pm you if I decide to get it done.
