Well, you have to understand that people are buying a service that the expect to perform at a certain level. It is reasonable for people buying a service advertised as 3.5Mbit/s to perform close to that speed at least.

There's no two ways about it, sorry.

I fully agree, what i was trying to say and maybe didnt make it clear, there are many factors which can cause bad things to happen to your speed and for the most part are out of the control of the ISPs and Telecom. I know it sucks having a service that doesnt perform to the expected level but it does happen.

If your speed is inexcusably low you should get you lines checked.

Fr some reason cokemasters post has gone but i knew that other ISPs were advertising faster broadband, but as far as im aware xtra were the only ones who mentioned it would be cheaper.

I removed it because the example provided wasn't suitable and was really just trolling.
Here is the example in question:

Orcon did try and spin it off as being cheaper to the disillusioned users on game planet and on the 'helpdesk' (commonly referred as the blame Telecom for any and every problem desk). And it did piss a lot of users off that they were forced off their plans without any warning (myself and a friend who flats elsewhere are very pissed off because we signed a term with them just for them to pull the carpet out the next month).

They also say that they are much better pricewise than xtra and provide a javascript app to 'compare'.

Understandably I do agree that various conditions can play havoc on what speeds that one obtains. However at the same time, one must question why some people are getting lower speeds than what they were getting with a supposedly slower connection.

Also I feel that it isn't made clear enough - when Xtra and the others throw "3.5mbps plans" around on their websites and ads etc... it does say in small print that yes that is the max speed and that you might not get that (and I hardly call this a broadband revolution), however its the magic number that people assocate with the connections.

Haha i like their little widget. On one of the comparisons it tells you that you will save money if you go over your cap.

The one thing i think xtra seriously need are different options for if you go over your limit $1/Gb instead of $20/Gb.

Upload Speed: 92 kbps (11.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

As of 23:13 - 17/4
Download Speed: 858 kbps (107.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
