mattRSK: I have just bought a new router too. Lovely.

Crap.  I wouldn't be buying anything that doesn't have a v6Tick on it right now unless I really had to!

hmm might take it back.

I would.  It's clearly not fit for the purpose you purchased it.

kawaii: What I'd love to know is this:

1) Why are devices (routers, wireless routers, ADSL modems etc) still being sold that are ipv4 only?
2) Why aren't the ISP's and upstream providers pulling finger and moving to ipv6 yet? the issue has hardly been hidden - it has been talked about ad nauseam for the last decade and yet ISP's are sitting on their hands doing nothing.

1 is because of 2 and vice versa.. Catch 22/chicken and the egg, etc.

ISPs (some of them) HAVE been pulling finger and are already running IPv6 internally, etc. They haven't been rolling out V6 to customers because of 1. And 1 hasn't happened because 2 hasn't happened. :)

Well, there's the smaller details. ;) But it basically comes down to CPE support, which will still be a problem, even if the CPEs ship with decent defaults. (OS support, XP requires v6 support to be installed, etc)
The whole broken connectivity thing, ISPs also need to be fully setup to run and support it and then the whole "broken connectivity" part, too. (Where you get a v6 IP, but domains that publish AAAA records as well A records will require a few minutes time out, but you have broken v6 connectivity)

All your apps also need to support it to, not to mention all your phones/tablets/printers/etc. Although local LAN stuff like printers etc should be less of a hassle.

For ISP's there is a bit too it, First off all your gear needs to support it if your not going the tunneled route, Then all of your monitoring systems and process's need to be checked to see if there are any v6 issues. Then your bandwidth accounting system needs to be checked. Then it's just the internal human factor.

Sounds simple but it's not really on any large network

For the end user all you need is a v6 router and a v6 OS.

Other than that there isnt much too it, Adoption has been slow because it cost's money. It costs you to swap out your decade old core switch which would have lasted another 10 years but doesn't support v6 and it costs you in wages for the team you need to put together to manage the whole thing

Speaking as someone who has deployed v6 in a large network, You mind sharing? v6 Is hardly rocket science and the hardest part has always been the "Layer 8"

Sorry, so over beating my head against the brick wall on v6 that ";) " is about my offering on this one tonight.

I don't disagree with anything you said...

Confess I got such a crap amount of help, with something that should have been a really simple question, this week, that I'm really over detailed analysis of why v6 progress is slow.

DjShadow: Is there a list anywhere of IPv6 ready DSL/Routers anywhere?

I hear that Dynalink have the RTA1320v6 is going to have an IPv6 firmware that works, [Source] they seem to be advertising that the firmware will be released, personally I'm tempted to buy one now out of support towards Dynalink.

Also, the whole CPE issue, could be partially avoided by making a switch to PPPoE and allowing the single PC families (okay, okay are there any still? ;)) use bridging, so they can establish the PPP link from their computer itself.  Should avoid some equipment replacement.  (Ditto for people that can bridge the PPPoE connection to a OpenWRT/etc router)

I also hear than some of the D-Link AIR units support IPv6 out of the box with a decent interface.

I don't think ISPs do PPPoE (yet?) and not all DSL modems do PPP half/full bridging, so you'd end up buying a new modem anyway, buy one that does v6!
