Which exchange are you on?

It's possible your exchange supports the newer Telecom wholesale service EUBA which is connected to ethernet backhaul and handover which have eliminated congestion issues.

Some ISP's have issues with their handover link dimensioning on the older BUBA and UBS DSL services from Telecom wholesale as they have ATM backhaul and handover that is dimensioned fairly poorly.

Yeah I think that exchange doesn't yet have the new gear that enables ADSL2+ and VDSL for Telecom Wholesale resellers like Telstraclear.

Given the exchange upgrade and cabinet rollout in that area is 7 months away I'd be tempted to try out Orcon+ on the 2nd line.

Bear in mind the BestDealEver has 12 month contract, so you may be better off just signing up to the cheapest naked asdl Orcon+ plan so you can cancel after 1 month if it's not any better than your Telstraclear connection in peak time.

Hi Ragnor,

Yep that's the intention, signing up for the Purple plan on the LLU network with no contract so I can cancel at any time and for when cabinetising happens in this area :)

Hi guys,

Just an update - got connected today on Orcon LLU and initial impressions are very positive. Pinging ~7 nationally and ~30 to Sydney servers, sync rates went from 5mbit to 7.3mbit and upload sync from 800 to just over 1mbit. So far so much better than TCL :)

Orcon use a lower noise margin on their LLU hence the higher sync rate, the most interesting thing to see will be what peak time international performance is like and some other threads indicate they are having issues with that.

Not much TCL can do about performance until the exchange is upgraded as they are using Telecom wholesale service there.  Your TCL performance will likely dramatically increase when the cabinet goes in and the exchange is upgraded.

Signed up for best deal ever last night, will see how long it takes/what performance is like, etc.

Hi Ragnor,

Peak time performance is fine and has only dropped ~100kbit downstream (last night), speeds are constantly 700kB/s+ and maxing out at around 761kB/s

cheers
