Call Actrix and get interleaving turned off, try it out for a day or so... if you have line instability or disconnections get it turned back on.

Telecom own the exchanges and cabinets, they are regulated by the ComCom to allow other providers to install equipment in them.

Orcon, Vodafone, Telstraclear, Callplus/Slingshot, Actrix have installed gear in some exchanges. Exchanges serve large numbers of customers, most cabinets only serve 200-300 each.

On a cabinet with 300 customers Vodafone or Orcon might only have a handful of customers off that cabinet, this makes it nor profitable to put expensive gear in them at the current regulated prices.

This shows that Actrix are directly handing the traffic to TelstraClear in Wellington and TCL are backhauling the traffic to Auckland, but that it's all within their network.

Assuming that the 94ms reference is an outlier, i don't see anything wrong with that traceroute.

What you can see is that for my path, there's no packet loss (0%) and that over around 40 seconds or so,
the pings were consistent.

So in other words I can not get Orcon+/Redzone because they dont have the equipment installed in the EXCHANGE or CABINET?
Cabinet is it not? I know someone on the same exchange, well according to the telecom maps at least, and he can get the Orcon+ plans while two of us who live closer together about 2.5km away can not.

There always seems to be a inconsistency or two or three with regards to ping, I assume they should all be around 50-60ms?

Variance of a few milliseconds per ping is well and truly normal. Variance by 10s of milliseconds between devices that're immediately adjacent to eachother is not typical, but if it is only one ping in several, it's probably a red herring and not a true indication of a problem. ICMP is frequently deprioritised, which can result in a few odd results that actually don't mean much of anything.

Here is an easy way to do a trace in text form:

c:\> md temp
c:\> cd temp
c:\temp> tracert www.geekzone.co.nz > x.txt
c:\temp> x.txt

This open the tracert in notepad. Copy and paste the text. It's a lot easier than an image...

For reasons mainly relating to cost (and recovering the investment) etc, I believe most of the ISPs that have equipment in Exchanges, decided it wasn't cost effective to put equipment in the cabinets.

So essentially: If your line is connected directly to an unbundled exchange and Orcon/Vodafone/whoever else/ installed equipment there, then you would be on the Orcon+/Red zone/etc. If you are connected via a cabinet, that has DSLAM equipment inside, because Orcon/Vodafone have to the most part opted out in putting their equipment in the cabinets, you WON'T be on their special networks, and you would be on Telecom Wholesale ADSL2+ DSLAMs and be going through the xUBA products.

From what you've said, you are going through an upgraded cabinet, so the chances on getting on the Orcon+/Red Zone networks is pretty slim.

Sounds like you are connected to a cabinet, Vodafone and Orcon haven't installed any of their own gear in any cabinets as yet.

So any ISP providing service will be doing it over Telecom wholesale equipment.
