hamish225: That's a weird double standard.

Makes sense, remember the old days of the pager.  They sucked, so hard to find a phone!

I have moved across the ditch.  Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

It's like "no electronics during take off and landing" but now pilots are using iPads...

I was on a charter Cessna flight >15 years ago where the pilot's phone rang during the climb after takeoff. It was the ground crew telling him he'd left a bag behind. U-turn, land, pick-up, take off again. What, me worry?

how else is anyone going to contact anyone? even paging is sometimes routed to the mobile phone as sms. pagers are impossible and obstructive. having to leave your task and hunt for a free phone and coming back to it is a waste of time imo

hamish225: No cellphones in hospitals :P naughty naughty

Actually times are changing well they are here in Taranaki. At our hospitals here they have changed visiting times to patients from 2pm to 8pm and enforcing it and they allow patients to have cellphones so people can contact them outside these hours to see how they are doing hence too also cutting out calls to busy nurses asking about the status of a particular patient.

In Auckland, our hospitals ARE cell towers - there's Vodafone equipment on the roof of all our sites.
