Hey guys, I'm about to be working in the Dunedin Hospital building ... I am wondering if you know whether telecom or vodafone will have superior 3g coverage withIN the building?

(not expecting any answers but hey, with geekzoners you never know what they know!)

Telecom uses the lower frequencies (850Mhz) that are better at penetrating buildings - you'll find that the signal will not only be stronger but of better quality.

Not too sure, you could check out the mobile cell site map:

I get good VF coverage on all floors except for the basement levels. I'm not in there often enough to pinpoint when it happened, but the signal strength definitely increased sometime in the past few months.

The hospital staff are on Telecom and seem to get good reception everywhere including the basement levels.

With telecom, whcih has terrible coverage in various stores at The Base in hamilton, particularly the new mall, i can still get a usable data connection at a decent enough speed to load pages even with very weak signal. Quite impressive, until the moment which it drops out.

ok using all available info from posts:

Telecom has an XT 850 cell 200m from the 'high rise' building.
VF has 2x 2100 cell 600m from the block of concrete.

telecom wins!
but from the usability info both are okay ... I'll go and test it out :) with prepay smart and number porting there's nothing to worry about :)

No I don't, but know a few people who do, and they get issued with Telecom mobiles, which work fine in there.

VF - useless. can't hear anything with voice calls, no 3g in most places.

2 degrees - crystal clear voice and decent 3g in most places

telecom - fast 3g in most places

That's a weird double standard.
