How on earth do you get results like that?  Is this the connections the forums are on or something?  Or your residential connection?

He is on a 100Mbps cable connection.

Geekzone is colocated with Datacom in Auckland, not running it from home.

This is a 100 Mbps cable connection.

I think you missed the point. You asked if that was Geekzone, and I said Geekzone *IS NOT RUNNING FROM HOME*.

The test I posted is my 100 Mbps home connection.

Where on earth do you get a 100Mbps connection to your home?  I thought VDSL2 was the fastest available service in this country.

TelstraClear cable modem. Not available for sale yet, pending some availability of modem in the country. Trials ran from end 2010 through mid 2011.

Yea, missed cody's post.

Wish I could have gotten in on the trial.  It would be nice if that kind of connection was made available soon. :)

Truenet has selected volunteers to ensure we have a common size sample for each ISP rather than a representative sample of NZ.  We did this because we are more interested in comparing NZ ISPs but less interested in international comparisons.  The lack of a need to compare NZ results means we do not need a statistically valid sample for NZ.
However, our sample is certainly big and the collection process robust, we can only speculate on how representative it is.  We have details of distances from the DSLAM which we will at some stage compare with NZ cable lengths to see if the selection is random, but there is no reason why it should not be, most volunteers are unlikely to choose to volunteer with any bias in relation to their copper length.

For all FS/FS ADSL2+ volunteers the average speed, including peak and off peak periods, is 9.5Mb/s.

Here is a chart by time of day;

The TrueNet chart should pretty much end this thread - the answer is right there.

On this note, I'd recommend people join TrueNet to participate in the data collection.

Thanks Mauricio,

yes we need more volunteers, we expect a 3-fold increase in probe requirements in the near future.

We are especially keen on more in the SI and more minor ISPs, however are now collecting volunteers in all places from all ISPs.

Volunteers are asked to allocate us a standard 1GB/month cap, with larger options available.  We use the larger cap volunteer probes for experimentation (we will be publishing a comparison of banks/ISP links shortly based on a trial)  Our next trial will be testing video using the larger caps, so the greater our cap the better.
