Or get off the P2P altogether. I am still on Usenet and average over 1Mbps from a US server with a single thread. The downloads are in small blocks and because it is not P2P I don't consume bandwidth uploading chunks to other users. Makes more sense to me

I just read about Slingshots new plans- none of them are suitable.

We got switched to Express Everday, which is 256k/128k with 25GB of data. The speed is mediocre, the data cap is great and the price is great. Should I want to upgrade to a better plan, I find that there is nothing suitable- nothing. At best, Slingshot are offering LS/128k, which isn't really godd enough. LS is okay- but I wont get anywhere near that and 128k upload is appalling. I hear other ISPs are offering LS/LS plans.

I looked at Sprint Lite, 2m/128k, with a miniscule 1GB of data. This is what we had when we were with Xtra- gone in a day.

I also looked at Ultra Lite. Lite being the operative word- only .5GB of data. LS/128, LS=good, 128=bad, .5GB data=You gotta be kidding me.

Also on the list was Sprint Everyday 2m/128k with 6GB of data. This is okay, but at $39.95 a month, this isn't really good enough.

Ultra Everyday has LS/128 for $39.95 a month. Better, but with only 3GB of data and only 128k upload this plan doesn't cut it.

In essence, Slingshot no longer win with me and I'm not happy. I certainly was hoping for better, but what you want and what you get are two different things.

Any suggestions about what to do?

Who are you with?
Orcon, since 2003
Currently paying for 256/128, 40GB

What do you expect them to bring out today?
Most ISPs will still have better options than Xtra

What will you do about it?
Post my thoughts on Geekzone?

What plan will you choose?
Have opted for an upgrade to MAX/128, 15GB as I never get near 40GB per month. Not really interested in an "unlimited" data cap. During the brief period that I was on 3.5MB, the max speed on my line appeared to be around 2MB.

Other thoughts?
Out with the old, in with the new, why don't we have ADSL2?

With the new Xtra plans, looks like a good idea to move big downloads outside the 4-12 timeslot. Any suggestions for a good scheduler app that can fire up my p2p, Usenet etc app and manage the download for me while I zed?

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I'm now going to eat my words- a few hours ago I noticed some things I hadn't on the Slingshot page, like the LS/128k 25GB plan for $49.95. I thought this was quite good value, and the other plans aren't too bad.

My complaint post was so... complainy... becuase the neighbours pitbull-killer-mongrel-mutt dog had been over digging up our section and terrorizing our animals.
(Moderator edit [CM] - We don't need potentially racist comments around here)

But yeah, Slingshot are the winners on the plan front. So I am happy. I'm not happy with my plan at the moment- but it's okay, it's acceptable. But why don't we have ADSL2+?

use utorrent, you can set scheduling so it doesn't download or it uses limited bandwidth during certain hours. works like a charm. You obviously have to leave utorrent running but you could use windows scheduler to load utorrent and set utorrent options to start/resume downloading on program start.

Windows task scheduler + a good friend taskkill are what I use

Works with anything that automatically starts downloads on launch.

Yeah, it is subject to Telecom's FUP for both Xtra and CUBS.

Not only that, but if you are a "Xtra Customer" (TM) then you don't even have the "privilege" of having a Usenet server anymore. You have to pay for a third party of shop around for a free one, which involves limits, etc...
