If there's a good reason you need the lower latency or extra bandwidth then get it reset, but personally I'd leave it.

well, as a gamer, and a lot of my active work going to NL currently, that 14ms helps a bit. but ima probably leave it and hope it doesnt take a month to get down!

Here's a question for our resident VDSL experts - will using the "Stability Boost" setting on my DSLn66u have an impact on my DLM?

With it set to max (5db) I get a noticeable boost to my Max and sync rate - around 10Mb to 42Mb down...however, after a month or so of this my rate dropped again and the CallPlus tech - after checking in the cabinet - advised we were on the wrong profile, set us back and now speeds are back up.

Can you actually affect DLM at the cabinet or is he talking about something else? (as an aside, he has also said that the original tech didn't run a new cable when he was supposed to so he is currently remedying that!)

My router/modem also has an option for 30a and 17a in the settings...I assume I should be keeping this on 17a, or does it not make a difference?

Cheers all.

lets start by asking for line stats.

by max stability do you mean it changes your snr to about 18dB? (+5dB) this will slow your connection a sizeable amount, and honestly, if you need to do that, theres something wrong.

callplus, or any tech for that matter. cant do anything with your profile aside from reset it.

30a isnt currently active on chorus gear, and given your sync rates your most likely on an 8b profile due to distance.

Hi - that was quick!

:)

Will have to wait until I get home for line stats...

The stability adjustment pushes my snr to around 7db from 12db and improved the sync rate and download speeds...or ostensibly appeared to.

Thanks

thats snr tweaking DOWN. not towards stability at all.

ild highly suggest taking a few moments to understand what your doing before snr tweaking willy nilly, you need to keep a close eye on your line if you ever want to tweak and keep DLM-1.

Right-O!

The adjustment was under the "stability" section in the router menus, hence my naming it as such. The descriptor in the menus suggested that adjusting it to "the max" on a strong signal could provide a faster sync/download speed at the potential expense of stability, hence my experimenting with the setting and the initial result being a measurably higher sync/download speed.

If this is likely to cause issues with the ongoing DLM or other aspects beyond my ken however, I will certainly take expert recommendations and turn it off again?!

It may well be that the new cable the engineer is currently installing will improve the line generally anyway.

Cheers

its very likely getting your a better quallity line after that cable is ran yes.

as your modem has correctly said, at the expense of stability. it is possible, you tweaked too much and DLM pulled back.

Thanks hio77.

I have set it all back to "off" for the purposes of the Engineer testing and sorting everything out and will let it settle for a while - hopefully if the line is now operating to it's fullest potential after the re-cable, I won't need to play with it any more anyway!

assuming DLM is reset after he does his work, you should let your line be natural until it settles.
