Psilan: Yeah I went from 17a, then had a few connection issues and Snap support suggested DLM reset. Then I got stuck on 8b

edit: Will put in screenshots in a second :)

ahh ok..

so, you lost 17a. that puts you in for atlest an 90 day wait till 17a is possible again (im told DLM does reset this, but not 100% on weather this is true or he simply wants me to try it!)

confirm your DLM profile though? (although screenshots will also point this out.)

ew its 6.0!

ok, so things make so much more sense now. your already on DLM-1 so you WONT see any movement aside from bandplan movements.

your snr is running a little high there! have you pulled that back a little?

BMarquis:

We have a number of conditions that must be met for your line to be switched to a 17a Spectrum profile.
If your line is on the 17a spectrum profile, but the spectrum between 8Mhz and 17Mhz is not being used, I'd be looking at your CPE. it shouldn't report 17a unless the DSLAM is providing that, and we run 8b and 17a on independant profiles.

As for the question of 'what allows a line to be on 17a':
The current bandplan is 8b (goes without saying!)
The line is shorter than 350 meters, which is an electrical length in the 5530 Network Analyser of <7dB
DLM is in operation on that line
A Bandplan switch hasn't occured in the last 90 days (to stop bouncing between 8b+17a, while still allowing re-evaluation as/when required)

Hopefully this helps answer some questions?

theres the 90 day bit.

its funny how many isps are unsure of how things work actually when you get to the finer details... that or you got a CSR who simply doesnt know it and couldnt find the right person to ask!

Feel my pain.
Thanks for the copy paste :). Good to have that confirmed.

I haven't done any tweaking of SNR at all. I was happily sitting on 69Mbit until this!

interesting that your averaging 1~2db higher than trainned on the snr then!

i suspect, you will not get back to 69mbit, maybe close to it though.

So every time Snap reset the DLM I go back to 90 days?
Will my connection adjust itself after 90, or another DLM reset?

when DLM is reset, most counters are reset. i am unsure exactly if the 90 days is also reset, but its all a waiting game.

a frustrating one ill agree.

my line lost DLM-1 2 weeks ago because of the storms. im yet to get that back.. to keep DLM happy, i pulled my snr tweak way off and back below the 50 mark rather than a nice 60/10

Chorus tech: Problem Status: Completed
The theoretical line distance from CT to the BB port is 500m (not counting CT to cust JP). Currently, cust is getting 38032/10336kbps which is consistent to what they were getting in the past. Line attenuation looks OKish at 13.2/20.6dB

Please advise if you still would like tech to investigate as NFF may apply here. (Unable to fault the line at this stage)

I recently signed up for vdsl after moving back to akl.
The theoretical line length is double what I would expect it to be. Please forget the "it's probably running down the other side of the street and back up," it isn't.

As much as I'd like to be happy with 37Mbps, being on cable for a few years has spoiled me.

So, my questions:
Is it worth having a tech investigate?
What do chorus base their theoretical line length on? (Sync speed?)

p.s I have a master filter, thx coffebaron

Theoretical line length is calculated from the electrical characteristics of the line. It's mostly (or entirely, I'm not sure) based on attenuation at a particular frequency. But your sync speed matches the attenuation so I don't think it's incorrect. One (unlikely but possible) cause for higher than expected theoretical line length is if the wire used is lower gauge than standard. Thinner wire has higher attenuation so results in a longer theoretical line length.

You say you know the line isn't taking a longer route - how do you know (not challenging you, just interested in how you're sure about this)?

When the subdivision was being wired up (8ish years ago), I spoke with one of the guys doing it.

Have been playing around with a new modem. It syncs a tiny bit faster than the old one, but there's not a huge difference. Stats are almost back to the level they were when I first had VDSL installed.
