hio77: quality of copper in the area, interferance etc. your lines more what ild expect for a line out of distance.

quite a obvious sharp slope as its gaining distance (after the ADSL range). AtomiclyCurseds line however is a bit more erratic..

yes, but that don't explain why im syncing quite abit lower with more or less the same specs.

i guess one has to ask the question, to get them spec what did he do as snaps fritz @ 6.06 i cant change the snr unless i do it via the web interface, and ive tried enabling telnet with a phone and no joy there either.

I suspect that snap lock these fritzboxes down.

it does explain it though.

let me repeat the line.

"quality of copper in the area, interference etc."

i get 50/10 on 17a on my line at 12db. where others at my distance are getting 65~/10.

yes well i would have to find out what cable core size runs down my street and how many multiples, then i guess I should see if i can get on a pair that has less multiples on it.

seeing the line from the street is cat 5, I will be upgrading the cable to cat 6 so hopefully that may pull up my specs.

I guess the sync speeds I have now will never change, the only benefit is alittle more upload speed, as I was getting better downloads on adsl2+

end of the day, at 22dB electrically your too far, your signal will attenuate and not be overly great.

theres not a lot you can do about that...

ahwell, still on the dlm training.

my brother has vdsl on a different line in the house and tweaked his snr and has 22 mbit down, thats something I cant do with my fritzbox!

if you have two links, have you considered maybe load-balancing them?

Your attenuation is the same but the reported attenuation is (I believe) only measured at a single (fairly low) frequency. I.e. it's indicative of the line length but it's not representative of the line quality or the attenuation over the whole spectrum. If you compare the spectra it's obvious that yours is much worse in terms of SNR over the upload and second download blocks. Perhaps your line is in fact longer and Squire298's is just showing higher noise at the frequency the attenuation is measured on. Or perhaps you have lower gauge copper (which attenuates more with frequency). Who knows? The point is that you need to compare spectra, not just the attenuation figure.

The line from the street is cat 5? You mean the line from the ETP to the socket the Fritz is plugged into? Is it cat 5 or cat 5e? If it's cat 5e I doubt very much cat 6 will make any difference unless your existing cable has been wrongly installed. Even cat 5 is probably not the bottleneck.

Line from the street is 2 pr x 0.63 to ETP then cat 5 and a filter at the end of the line.

Ive just asked a fault man, hes pritty sure its 200 pr x 0.63 running from my house to the exchange.

Any other extensions on that line? Standard practice now is to put the filter as close to the ETP as possible, not at the other end of the run. If the filter is very old might be worth trying to find out if it is ok for VDSL. I think there were some early ADSL filters that are not good for VDSL.

It'll be fine. Would be worth removing any extensions on that line though. You should have this:
ETP -> filter -> modem jack
              +> extension -> extension ...

If you've got something like this: ETP -> extension -> extension -> filter -> modem jack, it can cause problems.

For reference purposes:
Crow: 350m
Drive: 650m

From Pole to house wall is ~8m and installed underground (big bucks to get this done), Cat5e from wall to single jack is ~4m.

Filter is VDSL2+ rated, close as possible to ETP
On Hardline Telephone/VDSL plan

Not from the stats, no. You should be getting 45 Mbps+ downstream and should go onto 17a at some point. What does the spectrum look like?

How far are you from the cabinet/exchange? From the stats you must be right on it.
