This is a bit of a first world problem, but are there any reasons a DSLAM wouldn't use a 9dB SNR ? Recently noticed that I've consistently got a 12dB connection from a Vigor 130 over the last year, and now the same from a Fritzbox 7490 (set to max performance). Are either of devices known for mis-reporting the SNR ? Do some DSLAMs or ports still use 12dB ?

The history of this connection is 41/10Mbps @ 12dB on 997, improving to 65/11Mbps @ 9dB when 998 started in Oct 2015, but dropped to 60/9.5Mbps @ 12dB from Dec 2015. Those are all sync rates, not speedtest results.

12dB profiles exist as stability profiles, just as 9dB profiles used to exist for edgecases but hardly ever seen.

Your snr is likely not miss reporting there but actually on a 12dB profile..

Out of date screenshot from a few years back but a picture tells so much more, Below is the old DLM movements. Note the 9 & 12dB profiles.

My SNR is currently 12.8 and has been as high as 15.5dB.

I believe its because my line is hitting the maximum speed so there is no need to have a Low SNR to achieve the best speed, so it just raises the SNR to a higher level.

on a maxed line this will be the case, not the same situation though.

OK, so the DSLAM decided that 12dB was needed last year and has stuck with it since. Thanks for the info.

I have vdsl with bigpipe, I was expecting a faster upstream sync speed given the excellent downstream sync. Any thoughts? (using HG695b) The upstream attenuation looks a bit high ? (don't have a master filter installed)

If you've had the install for less than 10 days wait for DLM to do it's thing..

otherwise yeah I'd expecting closer to 30Mbit up based on my stats below

Your on a 8b sync, that specturm allocation will only really do 9~13Mbit depending on copper condition..

Your line looks likely slightly too long to jump onto 17a, Although give it time and you may be lucky.

More than likely, given your stats, around 10 up is all you will get. Which for 8b VDSL is great.

Hi All

VDSL cut over was Wednesday night for my parents, stats are below, but its dropped from 30/4 Mbit to 4/.8 after last nights reboot.

I installed a vdsl master filter, but didn't replace the vdsl faceplate. Should we be doing that now or at least direct wiring the modem in the meantime?

they were around 12/1 on ADSL.

why was it rebooted? you shouldnt reboot a VDSL connection unless you have to as it can affect the DLM which access the line and determines the profile and speed you should be on

Not been rebooted, it's still in first 10 days of DLM so my guess is DLM did a resync, which i saw daily on my on VDSL line during DLM.

i assumed when you said reboot you did it

Reboot = power cycle device
resync = drop and reconnect DSL session (what DLM does)

DLM shouldn't be doing things every night/morning.

does your modem show the errors? CRC and FEC etc?

Looks like you have moved to a 12dB profile, this is often a sign that DLM is really not happy with your line.

I would run a clean connection from the master filter in the ETP to a new jackpoint. cat5e+ all the way to cut out on any loss there.
