Hi all! hope all are having a merry Christmas....

I've doing the usual Christmas tech support for the parents, who have recently upgraded to VDSL and are not getting very good performance, though admittedly at the very edge of a VDSL zone. 16.6Mbit/s down, 0.88Mbit/s down, 42ms latency and skipped jitter and packet loss tests. The house is quite new, with cat5e wiring throughout. An alarm system was installed after the house was built after an encounter with some thieves...

I've had a look at the wiring configuration to install a master filter on the system, and have found one already installed on the input to the home alarm unit. The filter is not set up to filter other phone jacks or the VDSL port on the ring. Would the performance of the VDSL improve if I were to wire the VDSL port directly to the master filter VDSL output, or do I also need rewire the ring to be filtered by the master filter? Do alarms have any issues if wired in the same ring as a number of phone jacks?

Absoutely, rewrire it like you have planned to there.

Use a clean run of cat5e to limit any interference or loss too.

The old ring setup is just asking for trouble unfortunately.

Unfortunately I won't be able to put a clean cat5e run in place.... I was intending on using one of the spare pairs in the ring to run from the ETP to the master filter, and another spare pair back to the VDSL port.

Is there likely to be any issue for the alarm being wired into the same loop as the other telephone jacks?

I have switched to VDSL recently and understand there is an initial DLM process for the first 10 days. But is that normal I got only 0.6Mbit/sec all the time in the first 5-6 days??

Is there a DLM for ADSL as well?

It is never normal to get only 0.6Mbit/sec. Report a fault.

No, ADSL does not use DLM.

I have tested on ethernet and wifi as well, same result.

I have called them couple of times and they were just saying the adjustment is normal in the first 10 days.. But there was no adjustment at all and 0.6 Mb/s shouldn't be the starting speed.

VDSL:

When I got the information my line was connected to the DSLAM about 2km away from my home I asked them to switch it back to my ADSL. They did it today but the speed is same :-(

The only difference to my original ADSL connection: I went for the naked broadband. No cable change, no filter change just replaced the old modem with the new one (put back the old one as well with the today ADSL but same result).

Called them this afternoon and they told me the ADSL has the DLM as well.. Going nowhere, don't know what to do now.

Similar slow speed on ethernet:

Until last week (when I cancelled my landline and tried to go with VDSL) I had 15Mb/s all the time.

Something is wrong for sure.

You shouldn't be getting speeds that bad if you had 15Mbit on ADSL. Rough guess is around 30/3 or better should be expected (without seeing the line states)

Hi all,

I recently moved from number 1 on my street to number 3 ( over the fence )
In number 1 I was very happy with my download & upload on VDSL (91/41)

So seeing as I just moved over the fence I was optimistic about speeds in number 3.

But ever since day one the speed has synced at 50/10

Its been over 10 days and I was hoping the DLM would do its thing and it would go up even a bit more..

I used Chorus broadband checker (https://www.chorus.co.nz/broadband-checker)

Just to check my neighbors in house 5, further away from the cabinet. Chorus says they synced at 97Mbs

Have I just got a crap line in the new house or is it luck of the draw.

I'm <200m from a cabinet.

Is there anything I could ask my ISP to look at why its alittle slower ?
