An Update: Although the Zyxel was a bit faster, I have gone back to the FritzBox .... I just could not get correct NAT forwarding working for my Plex server on the Zyxel.

Also, although the uplink was faster, web pages were slow loading compared to the FritzBox ... guess you just have to try these things ...

I also note, that when I place the FritzBox back into operation, my upload speed had gone upto 0.8Mbs, so it looks like the Zyxel forced the other end into a better mode..

.. anyway I am off to return it back to the vendor ..

likely you just connected at a better time and had a slightly different SNR or attenuation

This is the other thing with different modems, sometimes their Queuing makes them worse even if they seem better on paper.

Nice! Where do you get this stuff man!? :)

Looks like it will provide many more options for line settings & combos of settings which is great. Doesn't look like it's performance oriented though, just stability, which is disappointing. Still, some nice enhancements there!

Im about 250 meters from the cabinet , is my downstream and upstream attenuation too high ?

just rewired from the etp to the jackpoint today , am i better off getting a better modem ? the only thing else to do is open a pillar in the paddock and replace the connectors in terms of improving the wiring i think.

You can possibly squeeze a few more Mbit with a new modem (I gained 5mbit when switching between fritzbox models) however with your line attenuation you are getting a pretty good speed, not sure if you will get much more. I would be waiting for the DLM changes to kick in and then see if its worth it to you

Your attenuation seems pretty high for a 250m run to the cabinet, but your sync speeds are great - especially with a 12dB SNR. My house is about the same distance from the cabinet, and I have 8dB attenuation - but only sync at 48/7 with a 9dB SNR.

With a 12dB SNR you have room to move, and will probably gain some decent speed from the coming DLM changes, especially if you get bumped to 17a. I wonder if your modem is misreporting your attenuation?

12db is a valid training margin for dlm.

Time may change the training value.
DdDLM will make this happen faster.

Well! After a few Internet outages in rapid succession recently I took a look at my line stats:

Obviously my cabinet has had some recent upgrades because I'm now on 17A with 70/30mbit connect speeds! I'm pretty surprised about that given my estimated line distance is ~300m!

Also, given that my attainable line speed is still quite a lot higher than my actual, I'm hoping for a bit more speed in the longer term, plus hopefully a bit of a reduction in the Interleaving in the end!

Upstream CRCs are a little on the high side, but those stats seem to be persistent as restarting the router didn't change them, plus they're not going up any further.

All in all I'm pretty impressed considering that the same line was getting only ~40mbits a few years ago when it was first connected!

It is the recent ddDLM upgrade doing its magic. I do think ddDLM has pushed your up stream sync rate too hard resulting in quite a lot of CRC. ddDLM may pair back th sync speed in coming few days.

In my case, ddDLM was quite aggressive in pushing up sync speed and then pairing back when the error rate is too high. Apparently this is how ddDLM is supposed to work.

@samF doubt you will see more as you are likely on a ikanos line card and you are maxing that out. they do report they can obtain higher speeds but they are stuck at 70/30.

the newer boardcom cards can do 100/50
