Here's the weird thing, almost 24 hours since it went off its back on again on Telecom, so maybe it was a line fault and the person I spoke to around 9 last night at Telecom needs an attitude adjustment as it was an actual equipment fault and not a porting issue. (Also thanks to anyone on here who may have pulled any behind the scenes strings!)
Ah well will enjoy it while it lasts as its service moving time tomorrow afternoon.
As a reference I got sync of 15.5-15.8 with my Draytek 120 and now have 14959/1048 with the Fritzbox 7390. Also needed to factory reset it before it would work.

you know I am in exactly the same situation (around 750m from exchange). am told by chorus tech attenuation too high. so if I install the master filter that could improve my chances of VDSL?

Installing a master splitter will improve ADSL2 as well as VDSL so worth doing anyhow.
Wait 24 hours and I will be able to tell you whether I can get VDSL

Unlikely as if youy had a manual prequal with a tech visiting they would have measured the sync rate or attenuation at the street. If it was too low there it's not going to be any better with a master filter.

Just had it installed, master splitter in the box outside, cat5 taking both signals for a further metre then split into cat5 for modem and ordinary phone cable for phone.
Sync rate so far 27976 down, 10352 up, attenuation down 15, 102 up, s/n down 12 up 16.
Speedtest 26.1bps down, 9.43 up, latency 6ms

I know it's early days but I'm very happy with those numbers!

And Telecom BB stayed active until the engineer called up for the switchover

HowickDota: I was syncing at 16mbit on ADSL2+ with 12db snr 10db attenuation and I'm getting 40mbit also with 12db snr on VDSL 11db attenuation

So I must be wrong about the distance where VDSL2 slows down to ADSL speeds. However if that filter is hard wired into your line (not the plugin type) then you have the best chance.

Time to find a new industry!

The tech suggested 20meg @ 1km was what he'd been told but I think it was his first install

It's about 1.6km, and I can confirm that as it is how far I am from exchange (via cable, not road) and syncing virtually same speed as was my ADSL2+ speeds.

how did you manage to get VDSL from that far out?
also how do i know how far i am from the exchange? from the maps i am around 700m from an exchange across the road but from the chorus manual test my attenuation is so high i can't be only 700m?
