sbiddle: Fixing it will probably fix the performance issue (as it's wired the wrong way), but if I were you I'd leave it there in the mean time. Some serious butt kicking will be occur as a result of this and people may want to see the work in person.

Agree - don't touch it - leave it as evidence - this may save somebody else from these cowboys.

Bets on how much longer these guys contract lasts after this?

This is just so bad I reckon a name and shame would be well in order. If they have done it once they will do it again.

The things that really sh!ts me is there are contractors doing it properly getting paid the same as these clowns.

I'm hopeful, and prefer to believe people can do better, and learn from their mistakes, and improve.
With any luck....

Chorus coming back today.

If you wire the filter as shown here, ie the voice port heading to the modem, then you put around 40-50dB of attenuation on the line, so it would turn it into a 6km long line and run at dailup speeds, so hopefully you would notice.

When I install a filter I always do a pre and post speedtest.

Chorus have tested and fixed the installation.
It couldn't have been a better / or more positive experience compared to yesterday's debacle.
Mike thanks for the personal attention and communication.

Corroded terminals, badly connected VDSL splitter, and broken krone in the local cabinet.
The got the us onto a new port entirely.
After everything was thoroughly tested and fixed, we're getting 30000kbps/10000kbps immediately - after being told nothing could fix our 9000kbps yesterday!!

Id love it to be faster however am happy with the quality of service and workmanship and comms and turn around time. A great outcome.

michaelmurfy: What the hell? Hate to say it but this is not the worst I've seen from Visionstream.

Really? They must be getting techs from Fiji or something, seems to be the normal way in less developed countries but we have scotchloks and other joiners available so no excuse for taped up wires like that, its just uneducated or plain lazy. Honestly I wouldn't be suprised if the ISP had contracted their own cowboys for $20 per customer to save on Chorus fees.

EDIT: Noticed they also apparently broke a krone in the cabinet (generally due to incorrect tools) and not fixed some corroded wires... Presume they are new on the job but they need to get some training and learn to take pride in their work!

Time to find a new industry!

They once installed UFB for one of my customers, connected the neighbors instead of my customers meaning the customers neighbors got free 100mbit UFB for about a week until I shut it off. Tried charging again for a new install saying I wrote the address wrong on the form but the "proof" they sent back was in fact the correct address :/
