solaybro: Why is cables latency to Dallas greater than VDSL and ADSL? (from True Net) I can get cable but I might have to get VDSL since latency on cable is worse than what I have now. That is if I end up going on Vodafone unlimited.

EDIT: Changed from international to Dallas.

Well you could draw the short straw with DLM and have a 16MS profile and INP so cable is the more stable option and guaranteed speeds.

Well you could draw the short straw with DLM and have a 16MS profile and INP so cable is the more stable option and guaranteed speeds.

I think I can get a good connection on VDSL since I am close to the cabinet and according to Snap have 1db attenuation.

I just tried to sign up to VDSL but I think your sign up is wrong, I just messaged johnr about it but I imagine it should mention it here.

You advertise free wiring and connection with a 12 month contract but when I tried to sign up the free wiring and connection was just a switch at the exchange and no visit was required, to get a master filter and dedicated jackpoint I need to pay $152. I thought a master filter was suppose to be free?

I just tried to sign up to VDSL but I think your sign up is wrong, I just messaged johnr about it but I imagine it should mention it here.

It is, Must be an issue with sign up portal. Call our sales team. That would be the easiest approach :).

My problem with you guys is that the modem you supply only has 100Mbps ethernet ports. I am planning on getting a nas server set up soon and I would like gigabit ports. I could just buy my own modem though but it's hard to find VDSL modems in New Zealand, no where sells them.

The new Orcon Genius White has Gigabit ports.....just saying

Nice to know Residential Gateways that ISP's provide are getting more up to the mark.
Does it have WiFi AC and a dedicated WAN port plus 2 USB ports?

Why buy another Modem when you can just buy a Gigabit switch? Much easier if you don't mind having two devices?

If you're determined on getting your own modem PBTech sell quite a few VDSL ones

I don't think it really matters who you go with these days, Internet access has become a commodity item and truenet has shown that none of the providers suck to the point that you'll be disappointed.

Truenet needs to test VDSL providers on a percentage of average off peak throughput. It varies too much otherwise and you cant compare a 22Mbp/s line with a 65Mbp/s line.

Agreed.

If you're in one of the InHome areas and use a triple package (TV/Internet/Phone), it's hard to go past Vodafone. Both in cost terms and package features.

You also don't get to keep it and you cost $10 more than what I can get on Vodafone and Telecom.

But then its included in the plan, inc phone landline and no traffic management or fair use policy to worry about....

WiFi n, but yes to the WAN ethernet and two USB ports....
