Athlonite: PBtech sound like they're trying to shirk their warranty obligations the CGA states if it's not doing what it's supposed to be doing ( fit for purpose ) then you have the right of repair swap or refund

I think part of it may be the length of time I've had it - I got it in April.
From memory, it's up to the retailer to choose what they want to do, right? I can't go in there and say "I want a refund, and that's that" - they can say, well we're going to repair/replace it first, eh?

I'd try a second unit first it really sounds like something is not right with yours if the second unit does the same thing then your in a much better place to ask for a refund and as long as the unit is within it's warranty period they can't argue

to Sbiddle I have no probs with using OpenDNS, my browsing is never slow and it allows me to block alot of stuff I don't wish to see or have blasted at me while browsing I'll take the extra 30ms for the ability to stop alot of crap over not having that ability

Update: Off to PBTech today to have a talk to them.
Currently using the Spark-supplied Huawei router. Is there any way to easily setup MAC filtering for all the devices on my network, or do I need to setup a rule for every single one? I had a look but that seemed to be the only way.

Also - any way I can assign a device on the network a specific (internal) IP address, based on it's MAC address?

eg, device with MAC address 00:11:22:33:44 would get an IP address of 192.168.1.666 ?

Yup!

Advanced Setup > LAN

Just below the DHCP option buttons there should be two buttons "Add Entries" and "Remove Entries". Once you click Add Entries its pretty self explanatory.

Wait - are you thinking of the options on the Netcomm router? :) This a Huawei one I'm (temporarily) using, supplied by Spark.

Replacement (brand new) NF4V received from PBTech. Couldn't import my previous config file (oddly enough) so I had to re-enter my network settings from scratch. Will test shortly.

Okay so far (touchwood)...interestingly, the software version on this one is GURNV5.OT132A-8-NC.AU-R5B014.EN !

It is. But I think that's what was on the last router I had and it worked just fine. The second I updated, things started breaking.

New router has a weird problem, but echoes the same thing as the last one: certain sites won't load. eg, gmail.google.com will not load - but gmail.com will load. Weird? I've specified to use Xtra's DNS servers.

try mail.google.com instead and see how you get on with that
