I'd like to know more about the platform that Pure Hosting intend on using (I can't access the website from work).
- Where are the servers based?
- What operating system do they use?
- What control panel do they use?
- What the are specs on the server(s)?
- What is the connection speed?
- What credentials does the datacentre have?
- What experience does the owner have with hosting? (specifics not just the blurb in the email)
I'm all for new companies joining the market, it leads to compeition and innovation. What scares me is people who are ill prepared, who disappear after a short time and give the market a bad name. Not by intention but by action. I've run my own hosting enterprise and been managing servers for many years and I wouldn't dream of launching a venture targetting 7000 customers of another service without having the infrastructure and services in place to support it.
I hope, hope, hope, that this is not being hosted in someones spare room on a residental connection. If it is, there is no shame in renting a VPS or Dedicated server with a known provider and expanding as custom grows. Simple things like clustered DNS and MX should be a minimum, along with server backups.
The web is littered with fly-by-night hosts, most of whom entered the market with high hopes and best intentions. There are plenty of resources out their to guide the construction of a great hosting provider (WebHostingTalk.com is one of them).
Spamming 7000 people who have not authorised contact is a great way to gain a bad name before things even start. Best of luck.
