JimmyCorrigan: Big Wellington city suburbs still lagging behind! As someone stuck with ADSL as the only option, I'm dismayed to see "Jul-2018 and Jun-2019", but i guess 4-5 years is still better than some places...!

How many of these "lagging" Wellington suburbs (including my own - fibre due 2019/2020) are currently VF cable areas?

It has been repeatedly denied that "cable" areas are given lower priority for fibre, but I still wonder ...

I've often wondered this myself, it sucks if it's actually true because cable hasn't been doing so great this year.

considering the wisp around here was not interested at all, and only considered an installation if  he could gain access to the valley we overlook, yeah. not happening!

its not as bad as the map makes out though, just on the border of vdsl, very likely to have Rural fiber running past.... there are options! its just the waiting game until they become available!

UFB fibre up to 200Mbps scheduled for July 2018 to Jun 2019 also. About 1KM up the road they've installed it, just finished last couple of weeks. Atleast we have VDSL, although thats been slowing down over the last few years :(

There is absolutely no truth to this at all despite it being continually repeated on here by people.

Large pockets of the Hutt Valley for example have fibre already, and this is growing significantly in the next 2 years. Logic would dictate that deploying fibre late in areas that have HFC would be absolutely dumb from a Chorus perspective, if anything they'd want to roll it out in these areas first so they could actively acquire customers from Vodafone.

Great now will get 200Mbps rather than 100.

Pity the install date still by 2201June 2016...

Could I stick with the 100Mbps you have been showing for a year for earlier install ?

Say 100mbps by June 2015....

Could cope with 50mbps by Xmas though..

Seriously..... Has anyone had their install brought forward ?

UFB is being installed in the street next to mine right now. They're parking their trucks in my street on the weekend.

But we're not scheduled for UFB until 2020. wtf?

Yeah i don't think there is any conspiracy. I was working out in Silverstream earlier in the year and they were rapidly rolling-out there.

I suspect it is more to do with Karori, oft-cited as 'NZ's biggest suburb', being large, remote from the CBD infrastructure and probably quite geographically challenging compared to the (flat) Hutt Valley.

I agree it is a huge customer base they would want to latch onto ASAP!

Chorus must hate me then. WINZ 1 door away. 2 buildings away from my back fence is a School, 3 Doctors offices just across the street. Jul-2017 and Jun-2018 Exchange is like 2 blocks from us.

I have my ISP waiting for UFB service in my area so I would be on it as soon as it is here. Come on chorus I am ready and waiting.

Mine went:

By June 2015 -> By Oct 2014 -> By Nov 2014

It's currently Nov and hasn't gone live yet... and I've been checking the map daily! :)
