Just saw this on Spark's website, where they talk about what's involved in getting fibre installed

The standard fibre installation should suit most New Zealand homes, and requires a technician from your Local Fibre Company to carry out work at your house. They will make sure you understand what's required and won't start any work unless you're happy with what's proposed.

Sorry, I got myself a bit messed up there. I have been told the process is changing, I'm not sure if it has changed yet or not. I wouldn't be surprised if the answer differs depending on where in NZ you are located.

Either way if you are not happy with what the installer proposes or if you need time to think about it just tell them. They can't install without your agreement.

Got a phone call from Chrus today

According to them, the contractor followed Chrorus installation guidlines (except for the fact they didnt discuss it with me)

I asked why they didnt trench atleats the dirt section of our driveway

"We will not trench going forward"

"Why?"

"Cost"

That is the exact reasoning - even though it states on the Chorus website that trenching could be used, Chrorus have abandoned this method

Another great quote

"If they cannot use your exising undergound conduit, then every install will be surface mounted"

There you have it people - suface install is now the standard method that chorus are using

Unbelievable.

Drilling holes through fences 101.
How to staple the fibre to each fence post.
The correct number of leaves to cover the fibre up with.

Quick update on this

I emailed Chrous with my concerns the same evening I spoke to them (when they basically said take it or leave it)

Got a phone call back the next day from someone obviously higher up the chain

Apologised for lack of communication etc - was very good, looked over the aeriel pics I had emailed them and we talked through a possible alternative

Actually, it was clearer than that - he told me they will uninstall everything and TRENCH it all to my property

The guys came yesterday and uninstalled most of it

They have just arrived this morning, quickly talked through the plan - and will be digging dirt/cutting concrete any moment

Well played Chorus for stepping up to the plate and fixing the install

Will let you guys know when its finished

Hi,

They didn't quite get finished today (just a few patching up concrete and touch ups to go), which they say they will do on Monday

What a difference though:

They also dug a trench through my lawn - trench dug by hand:

Much much happier with this

The install team (3 or 4 of them) were all good dudes, courteous etc

Well done for putting in right Chorus (and I believe Vision Stream)
