Alas, no

I found out about the change in plan, unlimited=20gb cap, the hard way

It was about 2 days into a new month on that speed test, I have since rang them up .... but not heard back
but things are going faster now.....

That happened to me the other week - month ticked over, I'd used up more than 2GB on the last day of the previous month (somewhat over 10GB, to be precise), get throttled for the next day, as expected, but after about 4-5 days, I was still throttled. I was about to ring and complain, but restarting my router fixed it. Stupid buggy ihug network...

I did, however, appreciate the irony of my router managing to work smoothly for several days the one time when restarting randomly (as it is wont to doing, usually a couple times a day) would have fixed the problem.

Avonhead Exchange, approx 1.9km from exchange

Typical rates a month or so ago

seems to be a little worse lately, esp ping times (blow out to 350ms)

Any ideas when the ADSL2+ rollout will occur in Christchurch  (the Telecom site states: ADSL2+ capable technology will be rolled out to exchanges in Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, Christchurch and Dunedin by the end of 2007, covering 50% of all broadband lines connected via Telecom exchanges.

Looks like the exchange was Fully Migrated at 16/08/2007
http://www.telecom.co.nz/binarys/adsl2_20070828.pdf

Have never received any notification from Telecom.  Are there any changes to settings in the modem?

I am not sure if it updates settings automatically:
The following status is from the modem

ADSL Firmware Version: 5.00.04.00 - 5.00.03.00 - 5.00.03.00 Annex A - 01.07.2b - 0.52
ADSL Software Version: V3.00B01T01.TX.20060517
Line State Connected
Modulation ADSL_2plus
Annex Mode ANNEX_A
Max Tx Power -38 dBm/Hz

Data Rate
Downstream: 7547
Upstream: 905  kbps

I may be too far from the exchange to get sync speeds more like ADSL2+ speed, so should be happy with what I get.  I am more concerned about the upload speeds, as anything over 2000DL is sufficient for me. however 512 upload and low ping is a must for VoIP and video conf. Paying for a Pro Advanced, and have seen the consistent upload speeds of 700kbs disappear over the last few weeks, and more of 180-256 with the odd peak in 300-400

i dont get why i can get really good upload speed but my download is half what others get with the same upload ,is there any link between the two? but anouther thing i notices that my "Line Attenuation" is at 42 and my snr is at 8 and my mate get same stats and is on the same plan but is at diff exchange (me=takapuna he=remuera) and he gets same upload but on download he gets 6000 compared to my 4000 on datarate ....and he has same router and plan!

Sounds like you are further away from the exchange.  Line attenuation is the loss of signal as it travels through the cable.  The lower the Line Attenuation the better.  As can imagine, the longer the cable, the greater the attentuation.

edit: i missed that you mentioned that your mate has similar stats for SNR and Line Attenuation.
Could be a number of factors, primarily distance, quality of copper, other interference on the line.
The Upload is a different frequency to the download.
Do you have a central splitter or running filters?

7547 downspeed limitation on certain Dlinks is mentioned here http://www.telecom.co.nz/binarys/adsl2plus_consultation_doc_060907.pdf.

Thanks Ross,

that's very informative.  I will look at the software version on the modem as looks like it can reach 13521 with revised firmware and software.

D-link DSL-504T (vI)

V3.00B01T01.TX.20060117

meanwhile I think the kiddie PTP fans are home from school as performance is dropping at a rate of knots.  Had a number of people complain of picture quality and voice dropouts... arggh    You pay for a Pro Advanced account and get shared with some 'Go Large unlimited' - bandwidth wasters.

Just my luck.  Generation 1 Revision A5.  Looks like it would require a hardware upgrade/swap.
Thanks again Ross.

Gah, I get BLISTERING download speeds: 9~25kb/s. Don't I have such a great connection. Oh well, I suppose I can't ask for much on a wireless network in a 2-storey house. This one particular time, I was getting bytes per second, it was so painful, it brings a tear to my eye. *sniff*

Speedtest

Bugger, I've had to retype this twice now, I keep pressing "Compose Reply".I is such a n00b.
