because he doesnt seem happy with VDSL and thinks it should be the same as he used to have. Just seems entirely unhappy with VDSL.

Different property, different exchange/cabinet, different lines running into a different house...a VDSL (or ADSL) speed is not guaranteed to the same everywhere.

mercutio: 10/4 to my mind suggests something is odd.  usually on really long connections the upload is much lower than that.

you can't compare attenuation between adsl and vdsl.    there have been some upgrades recently happening which improves download speed, and if your cabinet hasn't been done yet then your speeds may go up.

posting modem stats could be interesting.

i would second this. Please do post your spectrum, could be as simple as too many taps on the line however.

I have a Zyzel P870 modem, its stats screen is text only.
I asked the chorus tech if he could try another pair to my house but he said that it wasn't chorus policy to do that.

Wrongly I hear you all say I have chosen to close my Voyager connection and pay the contract break fee.  The Vodafone cable offerings with joining credits are looking very appealing right now.
I ordered a naked connection.  The modem was the ONLY device and directly connected to the entry point from the street .

Line stats would still be helpful.

woollettg: I guess what you find acceptable to take money for and what I as a customer except are totally different.
Coming from a property had 38Mbps down and 10Mbps up I'd say I've got every right to spit the dummy at Chorus.

Nope.

Chorus is not responsible for matching the speed at your previous property! They are responsible for giving you UFB when it eventually arrives, thats why VDSL was always a waste of time. Its just not possible to guarantee high speed data rates over legacy phone wiring.

Time to find a new industry!

DSLStats will produce the spectrum via telnet from the ZyXel.

Until now there is not a single shred of evidence of poor actual line/sync speed ....
