The thing is that a very big percentage of customers still hardly use their Internet connection to its full advantage

But in many cases video and cloud backups will be served from a local CDN. This is very different to using 50Mbps from the US.

Where is this 4.44Mbps coming from?

The monthly graph shows: Average in 5.13MBit/s, Average out 2.31MBits/s, total 7.44MBits/s

Google says that "7.44megabits/s in gigabytes per month" is 2444.03GB.

My ISP (Inspire Net) says they'll have words with you if you use over 3TB a month on an unlimited plan.

Wonder if the teenager, or anyone else, has ended up on a botnet...

Actually you're right. I got it wrong... I used the average UPLOAD stats of 4.96Mbps for a DAILY AVERAGE from the last graph... The download was only 4.44Mbps.

Over a 30 day month, 4.44Mbps is 1.45TB... Mind you, when I add the 1.63TB/month upload it comes out at 3.08TB/month (up and down combined)

No, you're right... I picked up the 4.96 for out instead of 1.83... Damn small type and old eyes :-) You're right. It's about 1.9TB

Sorry to say, I am not the least bit surprised by the companies response, nor their 7 day notice. I'd consider the usage high, probably too much, but 7 days notice with no prior warnings is rubbish.

I've had dealings with the owner and I'd avoid like the plague.

I've not been a customer personally, so if the mods want these comments removed, I am happy to do so.

I agree actually, though to 99.5% of the population 3TB of internet a month would be unlimited.

I agree actually, though to 99.5% of the population 3TB of internet a month would be unlimited.

True, but it still isn't unlimited. I would have thought throttling the speed down so there is no chance they can exceed 3 TBs a month maybe a better idea for those high users. So they still have unlimited usage, but the speed is restricted down.
I personally am on an unlimited plan but have no idea of what my usage is as it isn't shown by the ISP. But I imagine my usage is under 2 GB a day, but I guess it will be growing,

Inspire call it "Flat Rate" and immediately below the plan size selector have their fair use policy. Which is about as honest as you can get.

You are almost certainly underestimating your usage ...

the ratios of Download to Upstream usage there, ild certainly pick out as likely P2P traffic.

To me personally, the usage doesnt seem too excessive, Although it is controlled to not be within offpeak time.

IMO, i would atleast request a full breakdown of the stats they base too much on.

on my 16/1 adsl, Just shy of 1TB is an average, in a family of 5.

For a home connection, i see that as certainly within the higher band of things and i've never really had an issue with paying more than an average user for heavy usage - Going back to when unlimited plans became really viable in NZ, there was quite a period of speculation over if its better to stick on the metered plans etc..

I do act some controls over the heaviest of users within the house for obvious reasons..

I personally, am still a little uneasy about fair usage terms since most isps purely offer unlimited as High data plans, Atleast within the Residential market.

I must admit, i do personally outsource my heavy data usage to external services. Partly due to not wanting to load the home network but mainly i see that usage as Utterly unreasonable (talking TBs per Day rather than month here..)
